What is the difference between Level Design vs Environment Artist?

AspectLevel DesignEnvironment Artist
Primary FocusCreating gameplay layouts, flow, and player experience within levelsDesigning and creating visual environments and assets for levels
Skills & ToolsLevel scripting, game mechanics, level editors (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity)3D modeling, texturing, environment art tools (e.g., Maya, Blender)
Work EnvironmentGame development teams, level design departmentsArt departments, environment art teams
Industry UsageUsed in game design to shape gameplay experienceUsed to create immersive visual worlds

While both roles contribute to the game's environment, Level Designers focus on gameplay flow and level structure, whereas Environment Artists concentrate on visual aesthetics and environment creation. Both collaborate closely to produce engaging and visually appealing game levels.
