Job description

Level III Commissioned Security Officer
(Two Positions Available)
Overton ISD is accepting applications for two Level III Commissioned Security Officer positions for the 2026-2027 school year. These positions are part of the district's continued commitment to providing a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
The selected candidates will be employed directly by Overton ISD and primarily assigned to one of the district's two campuses (elementary or secondary). Each officer will serve as the primary point of contact at the campus main entrance and play an important role in maintaining campus safety and security throughout the school day and during extracurricular activities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and control access at the main entrance of the assigned campus
  • Vet and screen campus visitors in accordance with district safety procedures
  • Monitor campus video surveillance systems and security equipment
  • Respond appropriately to potential safety concerns, security threats, medical incidents, or emergency situations
  • Assist administrators and staff in maintaining a safe and orderly campus environment
  • Build positive, professional relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members
  • Conduct routine campus security checks and assist with emergency preparedness procedures
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and incident reports as required
  • Collaborate with district administration, guardians, local law enforcement, and emergency personnel as needed
  • Assist with traffic flow and campus operations during arrival, dismissal, and special events
  • Additional duties as assigned related to school safety and security
Qualifications
  • This is an armed security position
  • Must possess a current Texas Level III Commissioned Security Officer license, or be willing and able to obtain licensure within a district-approved timeline
  • Ability to successfully complete all district background and fingerprinting requirements
  • Experience in school security, law enforcement, military, or related field preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in stressful situations
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the public
Additional Training and Expectations
  • Participate in quarterly training exercises and firearms qualifications alongside district staff guardians
  • Maintain all required state licensing, qualifications, and certifications
  • Selected candidates will be expected to pursue and obtain Texas Level IV Personal Protection Officer (PPO) licensure within a district-approved timeline as part of the district's commitment to maintaining a highly trained and consistently prepared security team
