Job description

Description
As you begin to prepare your medical school application, one of the first steps is to create the foundation for your committee letter. The committee letter is a comprehensive letter that describes your strengths as an applicant. It draws from multiple letters of recommendations from various stages in your professional and academic career.
Below are a few suggestions as you begin this process:
  • A maximum of 5 letters may be submitted.
  • Recommendations may come from a variety of sources such as: Keck science faculty, undergrad or grad school faculty, previous supervisors, physicians you have shadowed, or volunteer coordinators.
  • You are strongly encouraged to submit at least 2 letters from faculty that can comment on your academic ability in the sciences.
  • It will be necessary to have letters that were submitted for your admission to the post-bac program rewritten specifically for the medical school application process.
  • It is a best practice to give an evaluator at least two weeks to write a letter, more if possible.

When asking for a letter of recommendation it is suggested that you provide the letter writer with the following documents. Please submit these documents to the Post-Bac Office as well:

  2. AACOMAS applicants will also need to submit a list of DO schools that need to receive the committee letter.

Please keep in mind it is sometimes necessary to send a polite reminder to a recommender a few days before the deadline. Please note that committee letters will be completed in the order they are received. Be sure to watch Interfolio on a regular basis and send reminders to recommenders as appropriate.
Once your recommendations and supplemental materials have been received Professor Armstrong will be able to access them via Interfolio. She will create a committee letter with excerpts from the submitted letters and commentary on your time as a post-bac student. This letter will be edited by DeEttra and uploaded to the AMCAS application site.
