Description Swim Lessons Instructor Under the supervision of the Assistant Aquatic Manager and Lessons Coordinator, this position is responsible for the instruction and safety of swimming participants of all ages and skill levels. Requirements EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING • Must be at least 15 years of age • Certified in Starfish swim instructor course or be willing to take course KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Knowledge of swimming skills necessary • Knowledge of organizing and conducting swimming lessons • Must be able to work with the public and other staff in a professional manner • A strong knowledge of customer service philosophies and practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Create and use lesson plans for all classes • Effectively instruct aquatic class participants for the skill levels assigned • Be able to teach classes from inside the pool waters and use assigned pool space effectively and efficiently • Supervise the instructional aide assigned to you • Keep accurate records including but not exclusive to: attendance, progress of participants, class activities and course record sheets • Begin and end classes on time • Complete and distribute report cards that are thorough and written neatly with no spelling errors • Organize and keep in contact with private lesson guardians, always having a record of their receipt number and call made for scheduling • Provide excellent customer service following Bolingbrook Park District guidelines at all times • Establish and maintain a positive rapport by using tact and discretion with participants, parents and staff • Respond to and report all unsafe conditions to the Swim Lessons Coordinator or the Assistant Aquatic Manager • Maintain a professional and well-groomed appearance while on duty in accordance with the park district branding policy • Perform other duties deemed necessary by the Deck Coordinator or Assistant Aquatic Manager • Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District's safety program • Work as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Talking/Hearing: to communicate with staff and public Seeing: to observe pool operations; to obtain information from written material Standing: while observing lessons Walking: while teaching lessons Swimming: to be in the pool during lessons Treading: to stay afloat while teaching lessons Diving: to demonstrate for lessons Reaching: to retrieve files and manuals Pulling: to install lane lines Pushing: to move deck furniture Stooping: to retrieve files at lower levels; to put supplies away Crouching: to get into pull; to retrieve files at lower levels; to put supplies away Lifting: to aid swimmers, to put supplies away COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS Must have the ability to assess emergency situations and react quickly and calmly. Must have the ability to relate to others in a professional manner. Must exhibit good safety awareness and judgment.

Must have ability to read, write and organize materials. FLSA This is a seasonal, hourly, non-exempt position HOURS The Aquatic Park is open 7 days a week. Classes run in the morning, late afternoon and weekends.

Hours for each instructor will be set by the Assistant Aquatic Manager
