​DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES -
May include the following:
  1. Provide individual and group instruction in the areas of literacy: Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, High School Equivalency (GED preparation), digital literacy, workplace literacy, financial literacy, family literacy, workforce preparation for Integrated Education Trainings (IET), college and career readiness, and/or special projects as assigned.
  2. Ensures that a minimum of 95% of paid time is devoted to instruction, lesson planning, and/or assessment of students.
  3. Assist Site Coordinator in facilitating new student orientation process which includes providing info sessions, intake verification, helping students register, enrolling students in classes, administering required baseline assessments, scoring of assessments, and introducing students to facility, site and community services in a pleasant and effective manner.
  4. Develop daily lesson plans for each class tailored to the instructional needs of students, uploading lesson plans as instructed.
  5. Ensure that students sign in and out of class using the digital attendance.
  6. Maintain retention in classroom and/or site by outreach and recruitment efforts, daily classroom structure, and as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  7. Incorporate functional context, health literacy, civics, workforce preparation, digital literacy, and transition skills in lesson planning and curriculum based on the Texas Adult Education Content Standards.
  8. Maintain and update instructional materials in classroom by keeping classroom and site inventory and informing/suggesting to immediate supervisor of material/supply needs.
  9. Consult with immediate supervisor and/or instructional coach regarding assistance in developing lesson plans, planning activities, instructional materials, classroom resources, classroom or site management, and staff development concerns.
  10. Submit to supervisor weekly attendance and lesson plans, annual student surveys, and other reports as requested.
  11. Ensure accountability/compliance requests regarding TEAMS/RISE (Texas Educating Adults Management System/Reporting for Industry Skills and Education) are being met.
  12. Responsible for outcomes: Retention and Measurable Skills Gains as outlined by Texas Workforce Commission Adult Education and Literacy (TWC-AEL).
  13. Participate and complete professional development sessions as outlined by TWC-AEL staff requirements and/or as assigned by supervisor.
  14. Establish positive, ethical, professional, and trusting relationships with students that leads to student success.
  15. Understand and provide information concerning Community Action, Inc. (CAI) programs including inviting "internal" colleagues as guest speakers at sites and classrooms, and make appropriate student referrals.
  16. Understand and provide information concerning priorities and procedures of different agencies represented by site collaboration and local community resources by inviting representatives from other agencies to be guest speakers for sites and classrooms.
  17. Collaborate and coordinate adult education activities, classes, etc. with site partners and other community organizations including other CAI programs, in delivering services in the most effective and seamless manner.
  18. Perform general tasks related to adult education program operations that includes typing, filing, copying, email communication, research, and attending required meetings virtually and in person.
  19. Participate as a team member cooperative and productively with internal CAI teams assisting and contributing to program projects.
  20. Special Project Assignment: As assigned, adult education instructor will adhere to special project grant and/or funding requirements such as but not limited to: outreach and recruitment; facilitation of student orientations; coordination of internship/volunteer activities; design classroom syllabus; prepare and maintain project records; meet with project staff accordingly; attend special project training, etc.

REQUIREMENT/QUALIFICATIONSPreferred:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Education for related field
  • Experience teaching adults and/or facilitating groups
  • Experience working with educationally and/or economically disadvantaged adults
  • Experience working in collaborative or “team” environments
Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for duration of class
  • Ability to carry classroom materials
Other Requirements:
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
