About the Role Mount Royal University's English Language Program is hiring two instructors for a short-term Summer English and Culture Program running from July 6 - 31, 2026. This customized program welcomes international students to develop their English language skills while learning about Canadian culture and university life in Calgary. Reporting to the Learn English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) Program Manager, the successful candidate will teach English language classes focused on integrated language skills development, including speaking, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, and intercultural communication.
Classes will include a combination of classroom instruction, interactive activities, and theme-based learning connected to Canadian culture and daily life. Our instructors bring adult education expertise and familiarity with current research in language teaching to the classroom through engaging lesson planning and student-centered instruction. The successful candidate will be able to apply appropriate teaching methods to meet learner needs, facilitate communicative and interactive learning experiences, assess student progress informally throughout the program, and collaborate professionally with colleagues and staff.
Program Dates Program delivery: July 6 - 31, 2026 Instructor start date: July 2, 2026 (orientation, preparation, and program onboarding) Course Hours: Monday to Friday (9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) Preparation, grading, planning, and meeting times are paid. Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging English language lessons aligned with the program curriculum and learning outcomes Facilitate communicative, student-centered learning activities that support language development and cultural understanding Adapt instructional materials and activities to meet the needs of diverse learners Monitor student participation, progress, and attendance throughout the program Provide ongoing feedback and support to students in a positive and inclusive learning environment Participate in instructor meetings, orientation sessions, and program-related activities as required Collaborate with program staff to support student success and contribute to a positive student experience Maintain accurate records and complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner Contribute to program evaluation and provide feedback to support continuous improvement Qualifications Bachelor's degree and TESL training recognized by TESL Canada 2 - 3 years of experience teaching English to adult learners Experience in short-term international programs is considered an asset Ability to teach across English language proficiency levels Research-informed practice supported by continued professional development Proven intercultural communicative competence Proficiency with educational technology, including Google Suite, MS Office, and learning management systems Salary: $31.06 - $39.33 per hour (as of July 1, 2026) Closing Date: June 12, 2026 A resume should be submitted as a single .pdf document
