Job description

Markman Law Firm is a growing law firm located in Las Vegas, NV. We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Personal Injury Litigation Department. Candidates will be involved in all phases of litigation from complaint to settlement/trial. This is a full-time, hybrid position.


The ideal candidate will have experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, legal secretary, or similar type position. Interested individuals must be able to work with little to no supervision and must be self-starters when it comes to completing and managing tasks. Compensation will depend on an applicant’s previous work experience and is competitive. We provide great work-life balance as well, and as a firm believe in managing family time, work time, and self-time.


Bilingual in Spanish, experience with Clio software, and an existing notary license is a plus - please be sure to note this on your resume.

Responsibilities:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following.

  • Track Statute of Limitation deadlines
  • Written communication skills to edit and proofread documents
  • Perform initial background research in preparation for filing complaints (TLO, DMV Research, Private Investigators, etc.)
  • Prepare ancillary documents to file complaints (Summons, Civil Case Cover Sheet, jury fees.
  • Send for the service of all Defendants after the filing comes back from the court
  • Superior Court websites to obtain case/docket information
  • Manage team/attorney calendar
  • Schedule remote appearances and motion hearings for attorneys
  • Ensure that a consistent naming system is followed when saving documents to files
  • Send various documents to clients for review and signature via DocuSign or a courier service
  • Maintain, organize, and sort all files/send for shredding/closing files
  • Propound initial discovery on all Parties
  • At the direction of attorneys, prepare and send supplemental discovery
  • Escalate issues (motions) to the attorneys in litigation
  • Send deposition transcripts to clients for review and signature
  • Request an electronic copy of deposition transcripts
  • When deposition transcripts come in, obtain a digital copy of the transcripts and save them to the file
  • Monthly Review cases to see if we got discovery responses and send letters to defense counsel, following up on our initial discovery if no discovery responses are received
  • Handle client relations and coordinate deposition/discovery completion dates with clients
  • Assist the litigation attorney with any necessary tasks

Qualifications:
  • Very well organized
  • Basic understanding of legal terminology
  • Computer skills to use information retrieval, document management, appointment, litigation support, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
  • Research skills to gather background information and relevant court records for cases
  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills to interact positively with clients, court personnel, and coworkers
  • Organizational skills to maintain accurate records for multiple clients at one time
  • Active listening skills to perform transcriptions and take accurate notes
  • Good and consistent follow-up skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle large volume of cases and multiple cases at a time
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting
  • Paralegal Certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of internet software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software
  • Prior experience with Clio is a plus
