Description

The School of Legal Studies in the College of Business at HussonUniversity invites applications for an Assistant Professor orAssociate Professor (dependent upon qualifications) of LegalStudies to begin in Spring 2027 on the Bangor campus. The primaryresponsibility of all full-time faculty of the University is thescholarly teaching of students in the courses and sections that areassigned. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ongoingcommitment to quality teaching, and professional service, as wellas excellent communication and interpersonal skills. He or she willbe expected to deliver experiential and applied learning tostudents. All course delivery and assessment data will be alignedand collected in accordance with Husson University standards.Courses will be taught in face-to-face classrooms, hybridenvironments, and via online delivery. The candidate will remaincurrent and pursue scholarship in his/her field of study as well asparticipate in committees and other forms of service to theinstitution. Additionally, this faculty will advise studentsregarding a variety of career goals and courses.

Example of Duties

Teaching:

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year.
  • Courses taught may include but are not limited to undergraduatecourses in: Introduction to Legal Studies, Alternative DisputeResolution, Family Law, Legal Research and Writing, Advanced LegalWriting, other areas of civil and criminal law, and other coursesin the applicant's area of professional expertise; and graduatecourses in legal studies, legal research, and other courses in theapplicant's area of professional expertise.
  • Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diversepopulation of students through careful preparation of coursematerials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed criticalfeedback on assignments and discussions.
  • Prepare course materials and use appropriate teachingtechniques which may include but are not limited to deliveringlectures, leading discussions, and conducting experiential learningopportunities in face-to-face classes, hybrid environments, andonline through Canvas.
  • Deliver experiential and applied learning to students whileincorporating the technology available on campus.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of course contentand instructional materials, textbook and equipment selection, andassessment strategies.
  • Align all course delivery and collect assessment data inaccordance with Husson University standards.
  • Learn and apply emerging technologies and advances as necessaryto perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timelymanner.
  • Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and newtechnologies pertinent to areas of assignment.

Scholarship and Professional Activity:

  • Remain current in areas of expertise through continual studyand scholarship in discipline and through involvement inprofessional organizations.
  • Provide assistance with curriculum development.

Service:

  • Participate in School, College, and University meetings,retreats, committees, and activities (open house, and/or studentrecruitment projects).
  • Create and maintain community relations.
  • Follow the policies and procedures outlined in the FacultyHandbook

Advising:

  • Advise students in the College of Business according to theHusson University Advising Manual.
  • Work with students and employers in professional settings,internships, and similar work-related situations as needed.
  • Employ University retention strategies.
  • Maintain weekly office hours to meet with students regardingclasswork, course registration, program declaration, and careerpreparation.
  • The Assistant or Associate Professor will be provided with thenecessary training and supportive supervision to help them succeedand become part of a vigorous learning environment.
Qualifications

Education:

  • The successful candidate will hold a Juris Doctor (JD) or PhD.in Legal Studies or other doctorate in a closely related field froman accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with specific knowledge andability to teach undergraduate courses in legal research andwriting, various areas of civil law, and other areas of legalstudies as well as graduate level work in legal research and otherareas of legal studies. Superior organizational abilities andexceptional written and oral communication skills are alsorequired. Professional work experience as a litigator ispreferred.
  • The successful candidate will be dynamic, energetic, creative,and engaging and have strong interpersonal and communicationskills, demonstrating a commitment to cultural diversity andinclusive education.
