Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Operational Excellence and Clinical Services, the Project Manager, Operational Excellence supports the management of operational initiatives that advance South Shore Health’s strategic goals and priorities. This position manages a portfolio of initiatives from intake through stabilization that drive efficiency, productivity, and clinical and operational growth. With a focus on collaboration, communication, and structured project execution, the Project Manager works closely with stakeholders across clinical and operational domains to support decision‑making, maintain alignment, and ensure project progress. The Project Manager contributes to building organizational project management and process improvement capabilities and supports consistent, reliable execution of operational initiatives.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages multiple operational projects and supports implementation in partnership with key stakeholders.

  • Conducts project intake and assists in defining scope, timelines, resources, and objectives.

  • Documents current and future‑state workflows and maintains project schedules, risks, and assumptions.

  • Identifies and escalates project risks and supports development of mitigation strategies.

  • Incorporates key performance indicators such as productivity, financial, and patient experience metrics to assess effectiveness of operational initiatives/projects implemented.

  • Utilizes standard methods and tools for performance improvement and problem-solving (PDSA cycles, LEAN, rapid cycle improvements, etc.)

  • Coordinates project communications and prepare summaries and status reports for stakeholders.

  • Supports post‑project reviews to identify lessons learned and ensure stabilization.

  • Builds effective relationships with project owners, clinical and operational leaders, IT, and other stakeholders,

  • Maintains project templates and tools to support consistent project executions

  • Supports advancement of project management and process improvement practices across the organization.

  • Utilizes principles of Collaborative Just Culture and High Reliability.

  • Participates in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in their role and throughout the organization.

  • Embraces technological advances that allow us to communicate information effectively and efficiently based on role.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education - Preferred

Bachelor's degree, master’s degree preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

3-5 years project management experience preferred. Previous healthcare experience strongly preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to manage cross‑functional projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

  • Skilled in supporting change initiatives and building consensus among diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions while meeting time sensitive deadlines.

  • Proven ability to excel and achieve results in a team-oriented, matrixed environment.

  • Strong organizational skills keeping tasks, timelines, and stakeholders aligned.

  • Ability to think analytically and problem-solve.

  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills for engaging a wide range of audiences.

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.

  • Knowledge of project management, change management and process improvement techniques and tools.

  • Experience with workflow documentation and process mapping.

  • Basic experience with business case preparation and cost benefit analysis.

  • Strong knowledge of data collection and data analysis techniques.

  • Ability to interpret project‑related documents.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio) and Microsoft SharePoint.

  • Ability to analyze data and create visualizations in Microsoft Excel; familiarity and experience with other visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI, preferred.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and adoption of new tools and technologies.

  • Ability to support innovation and change.
