Job description

Overview

Regent is a global private holding company focused on acquiring businesses and realizing exponential growth through operational improvements and strategic capital deployment. Since its inception, Regent has successfully acquired businesses from leading Fortune 500 and large-cap companies. Our investments span the globe and operate across a wide array of industry verticals.

We are currently seeking a Legal Counsel, Technology & Media to join our team. This individual will support the media and technology businesses of Regent's portfolio on a broad range of commercial, and data-related legal matters. The role will be heavily transactional and business-facing, with a focus on enabling growth while managing legal risk across Regent's technology and media operations. This is a five-days-per-week, in-office role.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including sales agreements, vendor agreements, SaaS agreements, data processing agreements, and online terms and conditions.
  • Support Regent's media and technology businesses with copyright licenses, content distribution agreements, technology licenses, and other IP-adjacent commercial contracts.
  • Advise on privacy, data protection, and information security matters, including compliance with applicable U.S. and international data protection laws and regulations.
  • Partner closely with business, product, sales, and operations teams to provide practical, solutions-oriented legal guidance.
  • Support strategic transactions by advising on technology, data, media, and commercial contract-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain scalable contract templates, playbooks, and internal processes to support fast-moving businesses.
  • Identify and proactively mitigate legal risks related to technology platforms, digital products, media content, and data usage.
  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments impacting technology, media, and privacy, and advise internal stakeholders accordingly.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on key legal matters impacting Regent's technology and media initiatives.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience at a large, nationally recognized law firm and/or a well-known technology or media company.
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar in good standing.
  • Experience as a transactional and/or privacy lawyer.
  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including SaaS, data processing, sales, vendor, and online terms.
  • Familiarity with copyright licensing and legal issues impacting media and technology-driven businesses.
  • Working knowledge of privacy and data protection laws and commercial data arrangements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate legal issues into clear business guidance.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Business-minded approach with sound judgment and a collaborative working style.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in applicable jurisdictions, Regent, L.P. includes a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This accounts for the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience and training, licensure, and certifications.

A reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role is $180,000-$200,000 plus bonus.
