Job description

As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer criminal history background check, physical examination and drug screen. All employees must also submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
The Legal System Analyst is a crucial role within the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office, managing the criminal justice database and providing essential technical support to Assistant District Attorneys and staff in handling a variety of criminal and juvenile cases. This position requires a high level of accuracy, prioritizing, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a fast-paced, high-volume workload. As a multifaceted role, the Analyst combines computer programming, data analytics along with software and hard support to benefit the needs of the criminal justice system.
  • Database Administration: Manage Prosecutor by Karpel (PBK) case management system. Including digitizing and automation of processes, data reporting and case review and document creation. Perform database maintenance including determining file structures, setting data standards, ensuring data integrity and accuracy and managing updates/backups.
  • Reporting: Retrieving and compiling system data for review and presentations
  • Software Analysis: Provide systems and application software analysis, integration, and strategic development. Analyze hardware/software requirements, evaluate new programs, and develop code to accomplish user and system goals.
  • System Administration: Install and configure internet access, hardware, software, and peripheral devices. Troubleshoot computer systems.
  • Technical Support: Support new and existing network users by providing demonstrations of features and resolving complex access problems.
  • Documentation Preparation: Perform specialty tasks including processing legal documents, discovery of media evidence, and managing audio-visual projects.
  • Agency Coordination: Serve as an office liaison with software developers, companies, and partners. Interact with outside agencies to promote communication and address technical problems.
  • Training and Onboarding: Provide technical training by developing teaching methods, materials, and technical guides for internal and vendor-written systems.
  • System Security: Maintain computer system security by overseeing user accounts, determining security policies, and approving user access levels.
  • Special Projects: Assist with trial evidence preparation and display, video creation and editing, and digital content creation.
  • Exposure to Sensitive Content: Be prepared to handle exposure to sensitive information and digital evidence related to criminal cases.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the highest level of confidentiality for all sensitive legal and investigative information.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with Prosecutor by Karpel (PBK)
  • Minimum of 3 years of programming, system analysis, data and statistical reporting or work experience related to the area of assignment (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Strong knowledge of relational database management systems, computer science fundamentals, and operating systems.
  • Knowledge of programming methodologies, languages, networks, hardware, and peripherals.
  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical writing and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet strict deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prosectors by Karpel experience
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and the criminal justice system.
  • Experience in digital evidence management or trial support technology.

Physical Requirements:
  • Sedentary Work: Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time.
  • As needed, ability to travel to various locations within the metro area as needed.
  • Ability to exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
  • Position requires reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.
