Position Summary:

The Mechanical HVAC & Plumbing Engineering Manager is responsible for guiding the mechanical engineering team in delivering high-quality HVAC and plumbing system designs for commercial and industrial projects. This position plays a key role in managing design standards, driving project success, and mentoring team members to support their professional growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership

Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers, designers, and technicians

Establish and refine design standards, engineering procedures, value engineering opportunities, and quality control processes for HVAC and plumbing systems.

Conduct performance reviews, provide professional development opportunities, and manage career growth

Coordinate workload distribution and resource allocation across multiple projects

Technical

Oversee the design and engineering of HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings

Identify opportunities for process improvement, innovation, and technology integration to enhance project efficiency and design accuracy.

Review and approve mechanical system designs, calculations, and specifications

Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, industry standards (ASHRAE, ASPE, IMC, IPC, IBC and NFPA), and client requirements

Stay current with emerging technologies, sustainable design practices, and energy-efficient solutions

Project Management

Manage multiple mechanical engineering projects from concept through construction completion

Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders

Interface with project managers to manage scope, schedule, budget on design build projects

Business Development

Support proposal development and client presentations

Participate in project pursuit activities and client relationship management

Identify opportunities for service expansion and technical innovation

Maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, and industry partners

Preferred Knowledge, Experience & Skills Requirements:

Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical engineering with focus on HVAC and plumbing systems

3-5 years of management or team leadership experience

Strong knowledge of HVAC load calculations, duct design, and piping systems

Experience with commercial, institutional, or industrial building systems

Proven track record of successful project delivery

Proficiency in mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP or other equivalent software)

Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, ASPE, IMC, IPC, IBC and NFPA)

Understanding of building automation systems and controls

Experience with sustainable design practices and LEED certification

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams

Experience managing client relationships and presenting to stakeholders

Advanced certifications (LEED AP, CEM, CPD) preferred

Experience with renewable energy systems

Previous experience in a consulting engineering environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
