Core Job Requirements
• 3-5+ years of experience in a heavy-duty truck service department, preferably dealership experience.
• Strong understanding of Class 6-8 trucks, diesel engines, transmissions, aftertreatment systems, electrical systems, brakes, and general repairs.
• Ability to dispatch and prioritize repair work based on customer needs, technician availability, parts availability, and promised completion times.
• Ability to review technician stories, diagnostic findings, estimates, and repair orders for accuracy and completeness.
• Ability to work with OEM technical support and warranty departments when difficult repairs or warranty issues arise.
• Strong customer-service and communication skills, including handling customer complaints and difficult situations professionally.
• Ability to identify opportunities for additional repairs and maintenance while maintaining customer trust.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn and use dealer management systems, OEM diagnostic programs, warranty systems, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, service advisors, parts personnel, sales, management, and customers.
• Ability to assist with technician training, performance issues, scheduling, and workflow management.
• Must be organized and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate and road-test commercial vehicles as required.
• CDL preferred, but not necessarily required.
• Ability to work extended hours or adjust schedule when business demands require it.
Preferred Qualifications
• Dealership experience with International, Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo/Mack, or similar heavy-duty trucks.
• Experience with Cummins, Detroit, International, Volvo/Mack, PACCAR, and other diesel engines.
• Experience with Allison, Eaton, and automated manual transmissions.
• Experience with OEM diagnostic systems such as International, Cummins, Detroit, Allison, Eaton, or Bendix.
• Warranty administration experience.
• Previous experience as a Service Advisor, Lead Technician, Shop Foreman, Service Foreman, or Assistant Service Manager.
• CDL or previous commercial truck driving experience.
• Experience tracking department KPIs such as hours per RO, effective labor rate, technician efficiency, productivity, gross profit, and customer-pay/warranty mix.
