Job Summary
Columbus State University has an opening for a part-time ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in the English Language Institute, a unit of the Continuing & Professional Education department. The selected candidate will provide quality English instruction to students at a variety of proficiency levels in a welcoming learning community. The position is a non-faculty, part-time, non-benefited position with Columbus State University. The position is as needed, for a maximum of 19 hours per week for an assigned time period.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare, teach and assess leveled ESL classes as assigned.
  • Ensure curriculum meets adult ESL standards and objectives as determined by program.
  • Implement and execute the provided syllabus with the Scope and Sequence.
  • Manage classroom to standard of CSU and Continuing & Professional Education policies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and other records as required by the program.
  • Maintain proficiency in technology and software used by the program.
  • Prepare a final assessment as prescribed by the supervising manager.
  • Advise students of program requirements for course advancement, policy compliance, class participation, and program communications.
  • Prepare and maintain artifacts for summative and formative evaluations.
  • Maintain work and office hours as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Develop and maintain cordial relationships with students in the program within University policy and program requirements.

Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and one year of teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; certification in a TESOL/ESOL/ESL course; and fluency in spoken, written, and academic English.
Proposed Salary
Salary is commensurate with experience and education.
