Job description

In support of a challenging, critical, and rewarding program that provides integrated voice, video, and data services throughout the Information Technology lifecycle, our client is seeking a Network Engineer to join our dynamic team of IT professionals dedicated to fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. You must be a critical thinker, have a strong work ethic, and be able to work independently or as a member of a team in a dynamic environment. We value candidates who are detail-oriented while also being able to think and react quickly to emerging and unique problem sets. To be successful, you must be able to rapidly adapt and learn how to operate the front and back end of new products and processes.

Must have active Top-Secret clearance with SCI or TS with the ability to acquire SCI

Essential Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the Network Engineer include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in managing multiple projects and initiatives under the guidance of senior engineers using standard systems development life cycle models (i.e. INCOSE V, Waterfall, etc.).
  • Provide support for local and wide area networking, communications, and related hardware/software in a multi-platform environment, under the mentorship of senior team members.
  • Support the operations of information systems, including computer and communications systems, LAN/WAN administration, system security, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to assist in analyzing and developing new hardware requirements and assist in preparing specifications for hardware acquisitions.
  • Research emerging technologies and support the evaluation of new solutions for integration into the network, such as mobile and transportable systems, Virtualization, and Software Defined Networking (SDN).
  • Assist in reviewing and updating network designs and site design packages.
  • Work alongside senior engineers to design and plan network communication systems.
  • Support the creation of documentation for network designs and operations.
  • Participate in maintaining and updating technical documentation for integration projects and ongoing network operations.
  • Help identify and troubleshoot performance, security, and technical issues, escalating them to senior team members when needed.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of DISA STIG requirements.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements and help evaluate vendor products under the guidance of senior engineers.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts such as TCP/IP, routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Strong interest in learning about network design, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN concepts and experience working with Cisco routers and switches (or similar technologies).
  • Willingness to learn how to configure, monitor, and maintain network hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of internetworking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to work well in a team and effectively communicate technical information.
  • Basic experience with network monitoring tools (such as SolarWinds, Syslog, SNMP) is a plus.
  • Must be able to work a 40-hour work week, normally Monday through Friday.?
  • Ability to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last-minute requests for overtime if needed.?
  • Ability to travel (5-10%) primarily within 75 miles.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Project, and Visio.
  • Exceptional attention to detail; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong critical thinking, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

Work Schedule:

40-hours of shift work; shifts vary from Days (0630 – 1500), Swings (1430 – 2300), & Mids (2230 – 0700); Sunday through Saturday

Security Clearance Required:

Must have active Top-Secret clearance with SCI or TS with the ability to acquire SCI

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma

Minimum Years of Experience:

4 years of relevant experience

Required Certifications:

Must possess a current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification and one of the following 8140 IAT Level II or III baseline certifications:

  • Level II certs include – CCNA Security, GISCP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP
  • Level III certs include – CASP CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, GCIH

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field
  • 4 – 8 years of relevant experience
  • ITIL v4 Certification
  • ServiceNow experience
  • Experience with installation and configuration of enterprise network and systems infrastructure devices, cabling, and operational best practices
  • Understanding of Active Directory, MECM, DHCP, DNS, Cisco IOS, SolarWinds, and Remedy
