Micron's Surface Science team plays a pivotal part in advancing semiconductor device development by applying modern analytical techniques to materials and processes. The team collaborates across process development and laboratory functions to drive innovation in memory technology through surface characterization and analysis.

As a Surface Scientist Intern, you will contribute to the development of next-generation memory solutions by applying surface science techniques to semiconductor devices and thin film materials. This internship offers hands-on experience with advanced instrumentation and collaborative research projects aimed at improving sample preparation and characterization methods.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with Surface Scientists to evaluate and enhance sample preparation and analysis techniques.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze data, identify process improvement opportunities, and leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate data interpretation and insight generation.
  • Innovate and refine characterization techniques using existing analytical tools and emerging digital capabilities.
  • Utilize AI-enabled productivity and research tools to support literature reviews, data organization, technical documentation, and workflow efficiency.
  • Participate in technical meetings to explore new approaches, technologies, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Document research findings through reports, presentations, and technical summaries using modern digital and AI-assisted communication tools.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, and will not graduate prior to September 2027.
  • Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as XPS, SIMS, APT, FIB, SEM, TEM, and electrical characterization techniques.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software and digital productivity tools.
  • Interest in learning and applying AI-enabled tools to support scientific research, data analysis, technical communication, coding, technical writing, literature research, or process optimization.
  • Strong technical, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Passion for learning and problem-solving in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with surface science techniques in a semiconductor or research setting.
  • Ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations, measurement strategies, and data-driven decision making.
  • Demonstrated creativity in applying scientific and digital tools to novel challenges.
  • Proven ability to work independently and contribute to team-based projects.
