Risk Advisory Services Associates support engagement teams in evaluating technology, cybersecurity, and business-process controls for audit and advisory engagements. This role assists with IT general controls, application controls, SOC engagements and report reviews, cybersecurity and compliance assessments, and technology-enabled procedures that support YHB’s Risk Advisory Services and Assurance practices. Associates are expected to develop strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills while learning YHB’s methodology, tools, and quality expectations.

Roles and Responsibilities

Technical Expertise and Work Quality

  • Possess an introductory level of knowledge and understanding related to Audit & Assurance work and general accounting principles.
  • Ability to follow YHB guidance regarding secure use of hardware, software, and client information.
  • Perform IT General Controls (ITGC) and application control testing including system-generated reports, automated calculations, interface controls, user access, and configurable workflow or approval controls.
  • Assist with walkthroughs and testing related to access security, change management, IT operations, backup/recovery, vendor management, and logical security controls.
  • Document testing procedures and results in accordance with firm and regulatory standards based on AICPA, PCAOB, Sarbanes-Oxley, and FDICIA.
  • Support SOC 1 and SOC 2 engagements, including control testing, evidence review, exception documentation, and report preparation.
  • Review client-provided evidence for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with documented control objectives.
  • Utilize audit tools to prepare organized and accurate workpapers.
  • Recognize emerging technology risks and trends impacting audits.
  • Escalate potential risks or deficiencies to engagement leaders in a timely manner.

Professionalism & Service Excellence

  • Serve as a positive representative of YHB by demonstrating the ability to communicate with others effectively and respectfully in both written and spoken correspondence and to act in a professional manner.
  • Communicate clearly with client personnel and internal engagement teams when requesting evidence, documenting follow-up questions, and explaining testing status or exceptions.
  • Maintain open and frequent communication with in-charge staff regarding the status of open tasks, assistance needed, and/or anticipated roadblocks or challenges.
  • Understand the importance of meeting client expectations and deadlines, as well as the importance of flexibility to assist the team to meet these expectations and deadlines.
  • Develop a clear understanding of YHB’s quality expectations in Risk Advisory Services engagements and consistently apply firm standards to produce reliable results.

Productivity & Business Development

  • Follow YHB’s time reporting requirements including timely entry of weekly time for payroll and billing purposes.
  • Take responsibility and ownership of work to meet annual billable hour expectations.
  • Ability to prioritize available time to ensure assigned tasks, reports, and deliverables are completed within the budgeted timeframes.
  • Understand the importance of efficiency and how it impacts basic budget performance and realization margin.
  • Develop an understanding of YHB’s service capabilities and the importance of business growth and development.

Continuous Learning and Professional Development

  • Actively participate in professional development activities during period of non-billable time such as continuing education, training others, firm recruiting initiatives, and/or firm committees.
  • Complete assigned training courses or learning tracks within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Solicit overall performance feedback on assigned areas from Senior Associates, Supervisor, and Managers.
  • Actively seek billable work from Supervisors and Managers when not assigned on an engagement.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn how quality review procedures contribute to client confidence and the firm’s overall reputation for excellence.

Teamwork & Personal Development

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Eligibility and desire to pursue CPA, CISA, CISSP, or CISM preferred.
