Job description

Sylvan Learning Center of Lakeland is looking to hire mathematics and science tutors for part-time afternoon hours, including Saturday morning. Some weekday morning hours are available based on demand. Competitive pay, depending on experience, subjects that candidates can teach, and availability. We seek dynamic mathematics instructors working with upper elementary to college students. Instructors must be confident in teaching Algebra, Geometry, and ACT/SAT. Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics are a plus. No lesson planning is required, but the ability to help students with homework in these skill areas is a must. We have a warm, family environment where everyone's priority is to help all students find success. Teaching certificate preferred.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Four-year degree and experience in high math to teach Algebra, Geometry, SAT/ACT prep OR a Junior/Senior in COLLEGE majoring in a mathematics or STEM field that can teach higher math to students

Responsibilities:
  • Working closely & developing a report with students
  • Teaching students based on area of interest
  • Getting Sylvan Certified (completed in a short amount of time at the center)
  • Knowledge of technology (such as iPads) to provide meaningful communication and feedback on student progress
  • Maintaining a schedule and prompt attendance for students' benefit (Dependability!)
