Job description

About the Role

Salary: Competitive base salary + performance bonus + equity (OTE $125k+)

Help commercial solar companies grow their business while accelerating the transition to clean energy.

As a Business Development Associate, you'll work directly with solar installers, developers, and business owners across the country, helping them navigate financing, close more projects, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

This isn't a traditional sales role or a traditional account management role—it's a blend of both. One hour you may be helping onboard a new partner, the next you're troubleshooting a complex financing question, reviewing an application, uncovering a new sales opportunity, or collaborating with underwriting to move a deal across the finish line.

We're looking for someone who loves solving problems, enjoys talking to people, and thrives in an environment where every day is different. If you're naturally curious, highly organized, and eager to take ownership, you'll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact while building a career in climate tech.

You'll work closely with senior leaders across Business Development, Credit, and Operations, gaining exposure to every part of a fast-growing fintech company. As Sunstone grows, this role offers significant opportunities for advancement into account management, partnerships, sales, or leadership.

What You'll DoBuild Relationships
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for solar installers, developers, and business borrowers.
  • Guide customers through the financing process from initial inquiry through funding.
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience by responding quickly and proactively solving problems.
Drive Growth
  • Identify opportunities to increase partner engagement and financing volume.
  • Conduct outbound outreach to prospective partners while nurturing inbound opportunities.
  • Support senior Business Development team members with strategic account growth initiatives.
  • Help partners understand how Sunstone's financing solutions can help them win more business.
Own the Details
  • Review customer documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with Underwriting, Operations, and Business Development to keep deals moving.
  • Track customer interactions and maintain detailed records in Salesforce.
  • Manage dozens of active opportunities simultaneously without losing attention to detail.
Improve the Business
  • Identify process improvements that make Sunstone more efficient as we scale.
  • Use data to spot trends and recommend better ways of serving customers.
  • Take ownership of projects beyond your day-to-day responsibilities.
 Who You Are

We're less concerned with whether you've worked in solar or finance before. We're looking for someone who is exceptionally bright, organized, and enjoys learning.

You likely have:

  • 1–4 years of experience in sales, customer success, account management, consulting, recruiting, hospitality, banking, or another customer-facing role.
  • Outstanding communication skills—you build trust quickly and communicate clearly in person, over email, and on the phone.
  • Strong attention to detail—you catch small mistakes before they become big problems.
  • Excellent judgment—you know when to solve problems independently and when to ask for help.
  • A genuine curiosity—you enjoy learning new industries, asking thoughtful questions, and understanding how businesses work.
  • The ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Experience with Salesforce or another CRM is a plus, but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
