Senior Manufacturing Engineer 

SUMMARY 

Drive the organization towards the goal of technical excellence in the areas of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.  Plans, organizes and controls all tasks associated with the accomplishment of lean manufacturing objectives.  Develops plans in the areas packaging, facility development, and labor studies.   Provide technical guidance and ensures state of the art techniques and manufacturing processes are utilized in all production activities. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·          Plan and direct activities concerned with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.

·          Conduct the necessary time studies to ensure that labor standards remain accurate and up to date.

·          Continuously identify areas where cost savings can be achieved through labor reduction or process improvements.


·          Plan and develop facility layouts for future business and/or expansion.

·          Conduct the necessary studies and provide the required information on new manufacturing facilities.

·          Develops the proper methodology for container movement within the dock area, warehouse, and within the manufacturing plant.

·          Develops packaging designs that adhere to ergonomic guidelines and ensures proper line presentation.

·          Develops sketches, drawings, specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval.

·          Ensures all process design and development activities optimize manufacturability through DFM/DFA analysis, cross-functional team feasibility studies and vendor consultation meetings.

·          Lead advanced quality engineering for process design and development by FMEA's process flow charts, control plans, error proofing.

·          Development of equipment plan by considering: value added labor content, appropriate automation level, ergonomics and human factors, operator and line balance, storage and buffer inventory levels.

·          Procurement of equipment (in cooperation with capital purchasing), installation and run off.  Equipment and processes must meet RFQ requirements (like O.E.E., Cpk's etc).

·          Launch new programs ensuring all organizational expectations associated with cost, timing and quality levels are attained. 

·          Support manufacturing by effectively addressing all process related issues.

·          Training of hourly people and quality engineers for new/ changed processes and process controls.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requictices.

·          Knowledge in various assembly processes and how material flows in and out of the process.

·          Knowledge of machine design, sensors, pneumatics, electrical, and machine controls.

·          Ability to conduct time studies on assembly processes and the knowledrements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

·          Extensive knowledge of Kaizan and Lean Manufacturing prage to interpret the results to make sound decisions.

·          Knowledge in various types of packaging containers and material.

·          Knowledge in quantifying financial information.

·          Knowledge in ergonomics and human movement as they relate to processes, material flow, and packaging.

·          Understanding of laws and safety regulations and how they affect operators and equipment.

·          Understanding of logistics, warehouse flow, and transportation of material. (Domestic and International)

·          Knowledge of various facility designs along with all of the mechanical and electrical systems within a facility.

·          CAD skills and knowledge.

·          Ability to work as a cross-functional team member.

·          Ability to work with customers on various proposals.

 

EDUCATION:  Bachelors degree in a technical field. Additional experience related to sunroof technology and/or tier one lean manufacturing development could replace some of the advanced educational requirements.

 

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years in tier one automotive overseeing lean manufacturing or industrial engineering activities.  Proven track record developing effective solutions.

 

COMMUNICATION: Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.  Must be able to intelligently present information to our supply base, current and prospective customers.
