About Us

Clayco is a full-service, turnkey real estate development, master planning, architecture, engineering, and construction firm that safely delivers clients across North America the highest quality solutions on time, on budget, and above and beyond expectations. With $8.1 billion in revenue for 2025, Clayco specializes in the "art and science of building," providing fast track, efficient solutions for mission critical, industrial, life sciences, power & energy, aviation, commercial, institutional, residential and sports & entertainment related building projects.

About Clayco Systems and Equipment Innovations

As part of our integrated service offerings, Clayco’s Systems and Equipment Innovations (SEI) offers a turnkey solution to execute complex building systems and process systems. Clayco SEI provides preconstruction, design, purchasing, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and process scopes of work.

The Role We Want You For

The Sales Development Manager is SEI’s internal Pursuit Readiness owner — translating sales leads into coordinated, executable pursuits. This role bridges SEI Sales, Preconstruction, Operations, and Procurement to ensure that every approved opportunity is properly scoped, risk-assessed, and positioned for successful execution. Once pursuits are approved as active, this role takes ownership of internal coordination: conducting site visits, developing scope feasibility assessments, managing milestone-driven handoffs to Preconstruction, and maintaining day-to-day alignment with Clayco project leadership and SEI Precon, Ops, and Procurement. The role reports directly to the VP of Sales and serves as the primary point of escalation for execution risk and readiness issues across the active pursuit portfolio.

The Specifics of the Role

  • Conduct site visits to assess project conditions, scope requirements, and potential execution strategies.
  • Review and define potential scopes of work for SEI participation in project pursuits.
  • Develop scope feasibility assessments in coordination with Preconstruction and Operations.
  • Assess contract structure terms and delivery model implications.
  • Develop milestone-driven Sales Deliverables handoff packages to Preconstruction.
  • Present a structured readiness assessment to the VP of Sales covering: scope clarity and definition, site risks and conditions, delivery complexity and schedule realism, alignment gaps between Clayco and SEI Preconstruction / Operations teams, and contract structure implications.
  • Monitor and flag capacity and operational readiness on a per-opportunity basis.
  • Serve as the primary internal coordination point for active pursuits — maintaining alignment across SEI Precon, Ops, Procurement, and Clayco project leadership throughout the pursuit lifecycle.
  • Manage multiple concurrent pursuit scopes simultaneously, maintaining documented scope narratives and coordination cadences for each.
  • Identify and escalate internal resource constraints, scope creep risks, and alignment gaps.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, partners, and internal leadership related to project pursuits and strategy.
  • Support day-to-day coordination with Clayco project leadership to ensure teams are aligned on scope, roles, and internal expectations.
  • Engage early-pipeline prospects to establish contact, understand evolving schedules, and document SEI’s potential participation model in preparation for future pursuits.
  • Maintain a weekly coordination sync with the VP of Sales; contribute updates on pursuit status, risk flags, handoff milestones, and early-pipeline trajectory.
  • Contribute to Sales Forecast & Pipeline Reporting on a weekly basis, providing input on pursuit readiness, scope definition status, and schedule risk for each active opportunity.
  • Deliver periodic status summaries on early-stage prospects to support VP of Sales decision-making on pursuit prioritization.
  • Conduct an end-of-period review to assess pursuit coordination effectiveness and surface any process or alignment improvements needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Business
  • 5–8 years in construction, preconstruction, or project development (specialty contractor, GC, or design-build preferred)
  • Background in sales coordination, estimating support, or pursuit management
  • Familiarity with electrical/MEP scopes
  • Construction drawing and spec interpretation
  • Scope feasibility assessment and bid/estimate coordination
  • Pursuit milestone and schedule tracking
  • Proficiency in CRM and project management software (Procore, Salesforce, or similar)
  • Cross-functional communication across Sales, Preconstruction, and Operations
  • Go/No-Go readiness assessment and structured risk evaluation
  • Multi-pursuit management and deadline coordination
  • Stakeholder alignment across internal teams and external client/partner meetings
  • Proactive identification and escalation of scope, schedule, and execution risks
