What is a lead video editor?

A Lead Video Editor is a senior professional responsible for overseeing the video editing process, managing a team of editors, and ensuring that the final video content meets creative, technical, and client standards. They collaborate closely with directors, producers, and other stakeholders to interpret project goals, provide creative input, and maintain consistency in style and quality. In addition to hands-on editing work, they often supervise workflows, mentor junior editors, and troubleshoot technical issues. Their expertise helps guide the overall vision of a project from raw footage to polished final product.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a lead video editor?

To thrive as a Lead Video Editor, you need advanced video editing skills, a solid understanding of visual storytelling, and a degree or relevant experience in film, media, or a related field. Mastery of editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and motion graphics programs like After Effects is typically required. Strong leadership, creative collaboration, and effective communication skills help manage teams and realize a shared creative vision. These abilities are crucial for producing high-quality content on deadline and ensuring consistency across projects.

Job description

*This role requires 4 days in office at our Belmont, CA location*
*Please provide a link to your portfolio alongside your application*
Say hello to opportunities.
If you're looking to be part of what's next in communication, you're in the right place.
At RingCentral, we believe the best customer experiences happen when humans and AI work together. Our agentic voice AI portfolio-AIR, AVA, and ACE-brings together automation, assistance, and insights across the entire conversation lifecycle. The result? More seamless, intelligent experiences for businesses everywhere.
With $2.5B+ in ARR and $250M invested in R&D annually, we're building the future of AI-powered business communications.
This is where you and your skills come in. We're currently looking for a Video Editor (AI-Forward) who's excellent at the craft and fired up to reinvent it. If you cut clean, think in solutions, and get a little obsessed with what AI can do for production - keep reading.
We're a small, AI-first creative studio inside RingCentral Marketing, and we move fast. AI isn't a someday experiment here - we're transitioning workflows from traditional to AI every day, and rebuilding how creative gets made from the ground up: Premiere on one screen, a node-based gen-AI pipeline on the other.
We also know AI only works well with humans in the lead, and that everything good still comes back to traditional craft. That's why we're building an AI-first creative team grounded in traditional skills.
Job Responsibilities:
  • 40% editing - talking-head, social, short-form. Raw footage to finished, scroll-stopping, platform-ready.
  • 40% generative AI - making and integrating AI image/video/voice into real productions, building node-based workflows, and constantly hunting the manual step you can kill with a better AI one.
  • 10% on set - light shoot support at the Belmont office: setup, lighting, audio, capture.
  • 10% whatever the work needs - motion-graphics polish, taming the chaos, jumping in.

To succeed in this role you must have experience in:
  • A solutions-first mindset and a love of collaboration. You'd rather find the way than list the reasons it won't work - and you do your best work next to other people, not off in a cave.
  • Premiere Pro power user. Fast, clean, deadline-proof.
  • Solid in After Effects - templates, lower thirds, light motion graphics.
  • A real eye for pacing, sound, and finish. You sweat the details.
  • Hardwired for efficiency. You hate watching render bars and know what turning off motion blur does to render times. You're ruthless about managing technical bottlenecks so you can leave as much time as possible for creativity.
  • Passionate about building AI skills and learning novel workflows - even when it requires an investment in time with no guaranteed payoff.
  • You can make AI VO actually sound human, and you've used generative AI to pick off various parts of your workflows.
  • You make social edits sizzle, and you scroll on occasion to stay in the know

Bonus points:
  • You've used node-based AI tools like Flora or ComfyUI (Flora's our home base; ComfyUI's in the lab).
  • Proxy-based workflows.

What we offer
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSAs) and Commuter benefits
  • 401K match and ESPP
  • Paid time off and paid sick leave
  • Paid parental and pregnancy leave and new parent gift boxes
  • Family-forming benefits (IVF, Preservation, Adoption etc.)
  • Emergency backup care (Child/Adult/Pets)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with counseling sessions available 24/7
  • Free legal services that provide legal advice, document creation and estate planning
  • Employee bonus referral program
  • Student loan refinancing assistance
  • Employee perks and discounts program

RingCentral's work culture is the backbone of our success.
