Gold Star Foods is a fast-growing foodservice distribution company and one of the nation's leading providers serving the K-12 school foodservice market. The purpose of this integral position within the organization is to support and lead the warehouse receiving operation by ensuring inbound product is received safely, accurately, and efficiently while maintaining inventory integrity and food safety standards.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Warehouse Receiving Lead is a key support role within the Warehouse Operations team. This position works closely with the Receiving team, Warehouse leadership, Transportation, Purchasing, Inventory Control, and Quality Assurance to ensure all inbound shipments are received accurately, inspected properly, and processed efficiently. The Receiving Lead provides daily direction to teammates, promotes a safe and organized work environment, and assists leadership in meeting operational goals.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a role model by following company policies, food safety standards, and warehouse safety procedures while providing leadership and guidance to receiving teammates.
  • Assist in coordinating daily receiving activities to ensure timely unloading, inspection, and processing of inbound deliveries.
  • Verify incoming shipments for accuracy, product quality, quantity, temperature, and damage while ensuring all receiving documentation is completed accurately.
  • Ensure products are properly labeled, rotated, and staged according to warehouse procedures and inventory requirements.
  • Support inventory accuracy by identifying discrepancies, reporting shortages or damages, and assisting with inventory investigations.
  • Monitor workflow throughout the receiving department and assist wherever necessary to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with Purchasing, Transportation, Inventory Control, Quality Assurance, and Warehouse leadership regarding shipment issues or delays.
  • Train, coach, and provide daily guidance to receiving teammates while reinforcing company expectations and best practices.
  • Perform daily audits utilizing approved company forms and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations, OSHA requirements, GMPs, HACCP guidelines, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving dock and warehouse work environment.
  • Assist leadership with prioritizing workload, assigning tasks, and resolving operational challenges throughout the shift.
  • Report equipment concerns, product quality issues, and safety hazards promptly.
  • Operate warehouse equipment safely, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and RF scanning equipment as required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, inventory accuracy, and service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Strong understanding of warehouse receiving procedures, inventory control, and temperature-controlled food distribution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and support teammates.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to safely lift 50 to 80 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to become certified.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of warehouse receiving or warehouse operations experience required.
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Foodservice distribution experience preferred.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), RF scanners, and inventory management systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve productivity, inventory accuracy, safety, and key operational performance metrics.

Hourly Pay: $24.00/hour

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. This position requires frequent walking throughout the warehouse, including receiving docks, refrigerated coolers, freezer environments, and dry storage areas. Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting are required throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques are required. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds is expected, with occasional lifting of heavier items using proper equipment or team lifting procedures. Employees will routinely work in varying temperature environments, including freezer, cooler, refrigerated, and non-climate-controlled warehouse areas.
