Job description


Sedgman is currently recruiting for a Project Estimator, with hands-on experience driving estimating activities across complex engineering studies and projects. This person can be based out of our Phoenix, Vancouver or Montreal offices.
The Project Estimator role is responsible for leading the preparation of accurate cost estimates for engineering projects within the mining and mineral processing industry. The role oversees stakeholder collaboration, risk assessment, and the maintenance and continuous improvement of estimating systems, data, and processes to support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, for studies/projects, ensuring alignment with time, cost, and quality targets.

  • Lead and collaborate with engineers, and stakeholders to develop estimates and risk assessments.

  • Maintain and improve estimating systems, databases, templates, and cost records, including final design take-offs.

  • Track, report, and manage estimating activities.

  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve estimating databases, price books, templates, and spreadsheets.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating, risk management processes and tools.

What are we looking for? Qualifications:
  • 10+ years' experience estimating within engineering or construction environments in the mining industry

  • Experience in developing estimates from AACE Class 1 to Class 5.

  • Experience with @Risk or similar risk management software

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including high-level proofreading and document quality control

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate estimates for multiple studies/projects simultaneously

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, stakeholders and cross-functional teams when developing cost estimates

  • Experience with estimating systems, databases, and continuous improvement initiatives
