At Alertus, protecting people from harm is our mission and our passion. As the leader in mass notification, we are committed to providing customizable, scalable, and cost-effective solutions, as we know even a few seconds of warning can help save lives during an emergency.

Our employees are integral to the company’s success and impact countless people's lives, safety, and well-being. We aim for a positive, collaborative environment that allows employees to work across departments easily and effectively.

Job Description

At our core, we believe that a seamless, accessible user experience is the bridge between a good product and a great one. As our Lead Frontend Engineer, you won’t just be writing code; you will be the primary architect of our digital touchpoints across web and mobile platforms.

We are looking for a technical visionary who balances high-level strategy with hands‑on execution. You will set the gold standard for UI development, ensuring our applications are as inclusive as they are performant. Based in our Baltimore office, you will play a pivotal role in mentoring our software team, advocating for the end-user, and bridging the gap between ux design and technical feasibility.

Candidates must be located within driving distance from our Baltimore HQ. A Day in the Life:
  • Lead the design and development of our web and mobile ecosystems using Flutter, ensuring a unified and high-quality experience across all devices.
  • Direct the implementation of WCAG‑compliant interfaces to ensure our products are usable by everyone, regardless of ability.
  • Establish robust data collection from the browser and mobile environments to provide deep visibility into the user experience, performance bottlenecks, and client‑side bugs.
  • Manage the build, deployment and maintenance of applications within the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, navigating the complexities of mobile release management.
  • Act as a primary mentor for the software team, conducting thoughtful code reviews and establishing best practices for clean, scalable, and maintainable code.
  • Work closely with product and design teams to transform complex requirements into intuitive, elegant user interfaces.
Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Taking an AI first approach to development and debugging, using tools such as Claude, Cursor, Codex.
  • Deep technical expertise in Flutter for both mobile and web applications, with a proven track record of shipping high-quality products.
  • Advanced proficiency in predictable app state management patterns such as BLoC, Riverpod, or Redux, with the ability to justify architectural choices based on project scale.
  • Deep understanding of the Flutter rendering pipeline (Widget > Element > RenderObject) and experience using DevTools to diagnose jank, memory leaks, and overdraw.
  • Proven experience writing custom Method Channels to interface with native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) APIs when Flutter plugins fall short.
  • Experience architecting multi‑package monorepos or federated plugins to promote code reuse across web and mobile targets.
  • Advanced knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and a commitment to building inclusive digital experiences.
  • Direct experience managing the submission, release, and maintenance processes for both iOS and Android platforms.
  • Experience implementing frontend monitoring tools and leveraging browser‑level data to diagnose issues and optimize performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and elevate the technical skills of those around you through mentorship and clear communication.
Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with native iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin) development to further optimize cross‑platform bridges.
  • A keen eye for design, user experience, and a passion for micro‑interactions that delight users.
  • Experience migrating legacy systems or scaling frontend architectures in a growing, medium‑size company environment.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience may substitute for education.
  • 8+ years of related experience
Alertus Career Advantages:
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans
  • Short‑term Disability, Accident, Hospital, and Cancer Insurance
  • Live Near Your Work HomeBuying Incentive
  • Employee Referral Bonuses
