This position can be based out of Washington DC or Philadelphia, PA.

Job Summary

The Lead Forecasting Analyst transforms complex data into actionable insights that inform business decisions and improve operational performance. As a subject matter expert, this role leads demand forecasting projects, partners with cross-functional teams, and develops scalable reporting tools. The analyst blends internal and external data sources to identify trends, evaluate strategic options, and support decision-making across the organization. This role operates with limited oversight and may coach junior analysts.

Duties include supporting the maintenance and application of travel demand forecasting models and tools along with business analytics pertaining to demand, addressing Amtrak ridership, ticket revenue, passenger miles, service levels, and high-level pricing changes as well as competing modes of travel.

Essential Functions
  • Lead the development of ridership and ticket revenue projections and market demand information to guide operating decisions and capital investments, utilizing Amtrak's econometric forecasting analytics / models 
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations using BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, SQL).
  • Integrate and analyze internal and external data sources to assess market, customer, and/or operational trends.
  • Collaborate with business partners to model outcomes of proposed strategies and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Contribute to data governance, may mentor junior analysts, and promote analytical best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with team members and other Amtrak groups

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, data science, economics, statistics or a related field or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Data Analysis Expertise: Proficient in SQL, Tableau, and statistical tools; strong understanding of BI frameworks and data modeling.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to connect data insights to business strategy and operational goals.
  • Communication: Skilled in presenting complex findings to non-technical audiences and influencing stakeholders.
  • Project Leadership: Capable of managing analysis projects independently and coordinating across teams.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Works effectively with cross-functional teams and may support development of junior staff.

The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 - $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
