Job description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to support financial operations for a metal fabrication organization in Birmingham, Alabama. This contract opportunity has the potential to become permanent and is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who can bring structure, accuracy, and strong financial oversight to a fast-paced environment. The person in this role will help lead core accounting activities, strengthen reporting processes, and ensure timely completion of critical close responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
• Direct the month-end close process to ensure financial records are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and other accounting reports for leadership decision-making.
• Oversee daily accounting functions, including general ledger activity, reconciliations, and transaction review.
• Maintain strong internal controls and support compliance with company policies and standard accounting practices.
• Partner with operational and administrative teams to improve financial visibility and resolve reporting issues.
• Monitor cash flow, expenses, and balance sheet activity to help maintain sound financial performance.
• Assist with audits, documentation requests, and other reporting requirements as needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and support process changes, including system-related updates when applicable.• Demonstrated experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures and financial statement preparation.
• Solid understanding of general ledger management, account reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
• Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
