Crane Operator Opportunities

Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) is currently seeking experienced Crane Operators.

Crane Operators will operate one or more cranes to move heavy equipment from one location to another location. This often entails a change in altitude from one location to the next. This position will need to be able to operate small and large hydraulic and lattice boom cranes.

RCI has various levels of Crane Operator positions based on experience and skills ranked as follows:

  • Crane Operator Leadman: NCCCO Certified. Operates mechanical, lattice, or hydraulic cranes to lift and move materials, machinery, or other heavy objects over short distances. Operates cranes of greater than 90 tons in capacity. Competent in crane capacity charts, lifting radius charts, rigging, and other skills to competently coordinate lift requirements for the specified materials to be moved. 5+ years experience in lift operations.
  • Crane Operator I: NCCCO Certified. Operates mechanical or hydraulic cranes to lift and move materials, machinery, or other heavy objects over short distances. Operates cranes of greater than 18 tons but no more than 90 tons in capacity. 3+ years experience in lift operations.
  • Crane Operator II: NCCCO Certified. Operates mechanical or hydraulic cranes to lift and move materials, machinery, or other heavy objects over short distances. Operates cranes of 18 tons or below or boom trucks. Less than 3 years experience in lift operations.

Qualification Highlights:

  • Must have current National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) credentials for the appropriate type of crane and a current Crane Operator physical
  • Must possess all knowledge skills and abilities for position (see below)
  • Must be able to successfully complete a designated Rigging Assessment
  • Must meet all physical requirements
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet a motor vehicle records (MVR) check
  • Must be able to pass a DOT Physical
  • Must have all required tools
  • Must be able to regularly and reliably show up at the assigned job site
  • Must meet all safety and security requirements at the assigned job site

Position Responsibilities:

  • Will operate various construction cranes to move equipment and other materials
  • Plan operational lifts
  • Will inspect equipment
  • Will be responsible for all safety aspects of operating the equipment
  • May follow signal directions from a signaler in equipment operations
  • Will assess area of operations for safety issues, required processes and planning of equipment operations

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have experience and knowledge of operating various small and large hydraulic cranes (up to 100-ton capacity)
  • Must have basic mechanical knowledge and illustrate the abilities to inspect equipment
  • Must be able to illustrate load planning and lift planning
  • Must hold a current NCCCO LBC Certification
  • Must have up to date Crane Operator Physical
  • Must know all proper hand signals
  • Must be willing to assist in other duties while not operating crane
  • Must be able to follow instructions correctly
  • Must be reliable, accountable and consistent in performing administrative processes such as but not limited to equipment inspection paperwork
  • Must be willing and able to follow all instructed safety regulations
  • Must be able to make it to work on time and work the designates schedule, including any overtime as needed with the proper notification
  • Must be a team player and have effective communication skills in dealing with coworkers and any other related contacts
  • Must be able to use problem solving skills and logical thinking to resolve and identify issues, including safety risks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) former employee from a Reduction of Force (ROF)
  • NCCER Lattice Boom Crane (LBC) Certification as a Crane Operator
  • Experience in hydraulic small and large cranes up to 100 tons capacity
  • Formal/Technical education

Candidate Possession of Required Tools:

  • Safety Toed Boots

Physical Requirements:

  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting
  • Will talk and hear in order to communicate effectively
  • Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform rigging connections
  • Able to use arms and hands to signal, grad, hold, turn, and push or pull objects such as materials, controls, and tools
  • Will be required to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short distances, see colors, possess depth perception and peripheral vision
  • Must be capable or working outdoors in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, earplugs/muffs, safety vests, gloves, steel toe/safety toe boots, and masks/respirators
