Job description

Juneau Construction Company is expanding our new Engineering Services team, supporting the layout function of complex projects throughout our Southeast footprint. The Assistant Field Layout Technician assists with accurate layout of structural and non-structural elements (foundations, mechanical penetrations, hardscapes) on active construction sites using Trimble RTS and GNSS equipment. The role involves coordinating with applicable field personnel and the Juneau Virtual Design + Construction (VD+C) department to meet project requirements while ensuring proper equipment use and maintenance.

Position Qualifications:

  • 0 - 2 years experience in Construction Industry

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform layout of structural and non-structural elements, including foundations, formwork, embeds, mechanical penetrations, and utilities alongside Field Layout Specialist or Engineering Services Superintendent.
  • Learn, maintain and operate the Trimble RTS and GNSS equipment.
  • Assist with layout based on data prepared by the VD+C department, ensuring alignment with design and field needs.
  • Ensure digital models align with field layouts by maintaining clear communication with the VDC department and field teams.
  • Assist Field Operations staff, Field Layout Specialist, Engineering Services Superintendent and VD+C in preparing and managing site layouts, prioritizing based on project schedules.
  • Coordinate with project teams for timely completion of layout tasks.
  • Assist with providing elevation control, grid line offsets, and benchmarks for trades.
  • Support field crews and the Superintendent with ongoing Line and Grade layout.
  • Ensure safety program procedures are maintained in work areas.
  • Maintain good relationships with trade partners.

Systems Knowledge:

Experience with traditional construction industry software similar to the following:

  • Trimble Total Station
  • Computerized estimating systems
  • Procore document control
  • Drone Deploy
  • MS Teams
  • Viewpoint/Vista financial software
  • P-Vault electronic invoicing
  • Blue Beam editing software
  • BIM 360 Glue (working knowledge)

Physical Demands / Job Expectations:

  • Position will work on-site with exposure to various weather conditions and may require regional travel between applicable Juneau Construction Company locations and jobsites.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, feel, twist, walk, talk, hear, see, bend, crouch, squeeze grasp, crawl, kneel, squat, push, pull, apply pressure, reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift and carry 60 lbs. regularly if required.
  • Must be able to safely operate all required machinery.
