Job description

Responsibilities
This position description does not represent a current opening but may be used to identify candidates with the skills and experience needed to fill a position at Technica Corporation once the contract is awarded. Candidates who express interest may be considered for future positions at Technica Corporation. If a position becomes available that aligns with your qualifications, our recruitment team will contact you.
Technica Corporation is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, self-directed individual to fill the Air Force Base Infrastructure Modernization (BIM) Systems Architect position. This position is responsible for the overall design and implementation of the modernized wired and wireless network. The selected candidate will serve as a senior technical architect, translating program requirements, approved network design artifacts, cybersecurity requirements, and operational objectives into a resilient, secure, scalable, and supportable base infrastructure architecture across multiple bases.
The successful candidate will apply their technical expertise to the design and development of the BIM network and to identify solutions to complex technical, engineering, and application problems, network challenges, and system administration issues. The person will support the modernization of multiple bases by implementing a standards-based IP Fabric for campus networks, Zero Trust-aligned segmentation, centralized policy enforcement, and a shared operations model that combines local base Tier 2 support with centralized Tier 3/4 enterprise operations through primary and secondary Network Operations Centers.
The Systems Architect will collaborate closely with program leadership, network, cybersecurity, and wireless engineers, operations teams, vendors, and Government stakeholders to ensure the architecture meets mission assurance, resiliency, cybersecurity, interoperability, and lifecycle sustainment objectives.
The Systems Architect will provide technical leadership throughout the full modernization lifecycle, including design, integration, testing, migration, deployment, documentation, and sustainment.
Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and maintain the overall system architecture for modernized Air Force Base Area Network environments, including wired and wireless networks, cybersecurity, management, monitoring, and operations.
  • Architect and support implementation of a standards-based IP Fabric using a leaf-spine model, including routed underlay, VXLAN overlay, BGP EVPN control plane, VRF/VNI segmentation, ECMP forwarding, distributed gateway functions, and active-active resiliency.
  • Ensure the architecture supports high availability, deterministic failover, fault isolation, path diversity, active-active forwarding, N+N redundancy, and continuity of operations for mission systems and base services.
  • Develop architecture artifacts, design packages, implementation guidance, migration and test plans, engineering diagrams, configuration standards, interface control documentation, operational handoff materials, and technical inputs for Government reviews.
  • Support Zero Trust Architecture implementation through identity-based access control, least-privilege segmentation, continuous validation, NAC integration, endpoint posture enforcement, and consistent policy enforcement across wired and wireless domains.
  • Participate in site surveys, requirements validation, installation planning, risk assessments, change control boards, technical interchange meetings, critical integration reviews, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Analyze architecture risks, identify technical gaps, develop mitigation strategies, and communicate risks and tradeoffs to program leadership and Government stakeholders.

The position will be based in Sterling, VA, or at other select locations as required by the contract. This job may support a hybrid work schedule. The final approved work schedule arrangement will be coordinated with the hiring manager. This position may require 10%-20% travel.
Requirements
  • Active Secret clearance with TS/SCI eligibility
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, MIS, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a similar related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting enterprise network, systems, or infrastructure architecture, including experience with large-scale campus, DoD, federal, or mission-critical environments.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, or supporting complex routed network architectures, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, routing, segmentation, high availability, and secure management.
  • Knowledge of systems architecture discipline with proven ability to evaluate technical requirements, define architecture patterns, and guide implementation teams through design-to-deployment execution.
  • Ability to balance mission requirements, cybersecurity controls, operational simplicity, schedule constraints, and lifecycle sustainment needs.
  • Experience with IP Fabric, spine-leaf, or modern campus fabric architectures.
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust Architecture, identity-based access control, micro segmentation, least-privilege access, and endpoint posture-driven access enforcement.
  • Must have the applicable DCWF DoD/Military training required for this DCWF-aligned work role, or one active certification from the following: CISSO, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, GCIA, GCLD, GCSA, GICSP.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity frameworks and operational requirements, including RMF, ATO support, DISA STIGs, ACAS/Tenable, DoD PKI, CAC authentication, FIPS-validated cryptography, vulnerability management, and audit logging.
  • Experience producing technical architecture documentation, engineering drawings, network diagrams, implementation plans, migration plans, test procedures, and operational handoff documentation.
  • Proven critical thinking skills in solving problems.

Desired
  • Experience working on Department of the Air Force (DAF) programs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with enterprise wireless infrastructure, including controllers, access points, SSIDs, WPA2/WPA3 enterprise authentication, RF planning concepts, and wired/wireless policy integration.
