Job Summary

Ensures safety, cleanliness, and operability of park grounds and facilities. This includes performing the full range of grounds maintenance: mows, rakes, edges and trims lawns, trims trees, waters and weeds shrub and flower beds and assists at City-sponsored events when needed. This position operates power mowers, edger, and other small grounds maintenance equipment; monitors irrigation systems. Operates various sprayers to apply chemicals for the control of weeds; uses knowledge of fertilizer formulations for use in spreaders and or other proper fertilizer applicators. This position is responsible for daily maintenance of restrooms; litter pick-up; paints, and performs minor repairs on facilities, equipment, park furnishings and amenities.
Duties
  • Operates weed eaters, rakes, blowers, push mowers and cleans in/around parks.
  • Loads equipment, pole saw, weed eater, blower, hedger, chainsaw, generator, on truck and trailer for job to be completed, and may drive to locations.
  • Prunes and removes dead or damaged trees and shrubs.
  • Minor playground assembly and concrete work.
  • Prepares for special events, Christmas, tournaments, Special Olympics, and July 4th etc.
  • Performs preventative maintenance including checking and changing oil and minor repair of equipment including vehicle, pole saw, chain saw, blower, and weed- eater.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver's license within 90 days).

Preferred:
  • Previous lawn maintenance experience.

Ability to perform minor repairs, follow written and oral instructions and operate tools and machinery necessary for maintenance and repairs.
