To thrive as a Laundry Helper, you need basic knowledge of laundry processes, attention to detail, and physical stamina, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with commercial washing machines, dryers, and cleaning agents is typically required, along with adherence to safety and hygiene protocols. Strong time management, teamwork, and communication skills help you work efficiently and support a fast-paced environment. These skills are crucial to ensure clean, well-maintained linens and garments, contributing to the overall quality and hygiene standards of the facility.

What are some common challenges a laundry helper may face, and how can they be managed effectively?

Laundry Helpers often work in fast-paced environments where managing large volumes of laundry efficiently is crucial. Common challenges include handling heavy loads, meeting strict cleanliness standards, and maintaining organization during busy periods. Effective time management and teamwork with colleagues can help ease the workload, while proper training in equipment use and safety procedures ensures both quality results and personal well-being. Open communication with supervisors also helps address issues quickly and maintain a positive work atmosphere.

Job description

About Hampr

Hampr is on a mission to make laundry disappear from your to-do list. We're a fast-growing laundry-as-a-service company. We pick up dirty laundry, wash and fold it with care, and return it cleaner than the day you bought it - usually within 24 hours. We serve households, businesses, and properties across the country, and we're growing fast. We're building a brand people love and a service people can't live without.

About the Role

As a Lead Laundry Processor, you do the same laundry work as the rest of the team - but you also help lead. You set a good example, help train newer team members, and make sure the work stays high quality even when your supervisor isn't around. When things get busy or something goes wrong, you're the one who steps up to help fix it. The team runs smoother because of you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process assigned laundry orders completely and on time - sorting, washing, drying, folding, and packaging - while maintaining Hampr's quality standards at every step.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for processors on your shift, answering questions, delegating orders, and escalating issues to the Facility Manager as needed.
  • Train new and developing processors on Hampr SOPs, equipment operation, care instruction protocols, and quality standards.
  • Conduct quality checks on completed orders before packaging, catching and correcting errors before they reach the customer.
  • Track order progress throughout your shift and move work around as needed so the team stays on pace and no orders fall behind.
  • Operate and oversee the folding robot alongside your team, managing both automated equipment and people to maximize floor efficiency and output quality.
  • Follow and enforce all SOPs for laundry processing, equipment use, and facility safety - including holding teammates accountable to the same standards.
  • Communicate proactively with the Facility Manager on order status, team performance issues, equipment concerns, and shift-end summaries.
  • Support surge coverage by stepping into high-volume processing when needed and helping the team finish strong.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout your shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience, with at least 1 year as lead.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain quality output at volume, with attention to customer care instructions and preferences.
  • Comfortable taking informal leadership of a small team - directing workflow, answering questions, and keeping people on task without formal authority.
  • Experience training or onboarding peers, even informally.
  • Proficient in reading and following customer care notes via the Hampr app or equivalent tablet-based platform.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality - a Lead who isn't there can't lead.
  • Positive, team-first attitude with the maturity to hold standards without creating friction.

Who you are

  • You own your orders. You don't cut corners, you don't rush the fold, and you don't pass a problem to the next person without flagging it. From the moment a bag hits your station to the moment it leaves clean and folded, it's yours.
  • You notice the things other people miss. The inside-out shirt. The stain that almost made it through. The customer note that said cold water only. Details aren't extra - they're the whole job.
  • You're the person your team can count on. When orders stack up, you take charge of organizing what needs to happen, help those around you and the people around you feel supported because you're there.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move throughout the facility for extended periods across a full shift.
  • Ability to lift and bend with a load of laundry in your arms.
  • Ability to regularly lift laundry bags and supply containers weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a laundry facility.

Benefits

Benefits

The current benefit offerings are listed below for this role. And we're just getting started. We'll continue to add benefits regularly as we scale - because the people who help build this company should reap the rewards of what we build together.

  • Medical, dental, and vision
  • Paid time off
  • Bonus pay based on facility orders filled
