Job Summary: The Laundry Attendant is responsible for collecting, washing, drying, folding, ironing, and distributing residents' personal clothing, linens, towels, and facility laundry. This position helps maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for residents while ensuring laundry is handled with care, accuracy, and confidentiality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect soiled linens, towels, and residents' personal clothing from designated areas.
- Sort laundry according to fabric type, color, and washing instructions.
- Operate commercial washers, dryers, and other laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
- Fold, hang, iron, and organize clean laundry for distribution.
- Deliver clean linens and residents' clothing to the appropriate rooms and departments.
- Label and track residents' personal clothing to minimize lost items.
- Inspect laundry for stains, damage, or needed repairs and report concerns to the supervisor.
- Maintain adequate inventory of linens and notify the supervisor when supplies are low.
- Clean and sanitize laundry equipment and work areas according to infection control standards.
- Follow all safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, and facility policies.
- Handle residents' belongings respectfully and maintain confidentiality.
- Assist housekeeping with other cleaning duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous laundry or housekeeping experience in a healthcare, assisted living, or hospitality setting is preferred but not required.
- Ability to operate commercial laundry equipment.
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull laundry carts.
- Ability to work in a warm, humid environment.
Work Environment
- Indoor laundry facility within an assisted living community.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, detergents, heat, and noise from commercial equipment.
- Weekend, holiday, and flexible scheduling may be required.
