Launch Operations Manager information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Launch Operations Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Launch Operations Manager, you need a solid background in project management, aerospace engineering, and logistics, often supported by a relevant degree and industry experience. Familiarity with launch vehicles, mission control software, and certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma are commonly required. Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams under pressure help set top performers apart. These skills are crucial for ensuring successful and timely launches, mitigating risks, and coordinating complex operations in a high-stakes environment.

What is the difference between Launch Operations Manager vs Launch Coordinator?

What are some common challenges faced by Launch Operations Managers during mission preparations?

Launch Operations Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating complex schedules across multidisciplinary teams, managing last-minute technical issues, and ensuring all safety protocols are meticulously followed. Balancing the needs of engineers, safety officers, and external stakeholders requires strong communication and problem-solving skills. Additionally, adapting to rapidly changing conditions or weather constraints can require quick decision-making to keep the mission on track and minimize delays.

What are Launch Operations Managers?

Launch Operations Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of a launch event, such as product launches or space vehicle launches. They manage cross-functional teams, ensure timelines are met, and address any logistical or technical challenges that arise during the launch process. Their role involves detailed planning, risk management, and communication with stakeholders to ensure a successful and safe launch. Launch Operations Managers often work in industries like aerospace, technology, or consumer goods.

Is operations manager a high position?

An operations manager is typically considered a mid- to senior-level role responsible for overseeing daily business activities, improving efficiency, and managing teams. While it is a significant position within an organization, it is generally below executive roles such as director or vice president.

What exactly does an operations manager do?

An operations manager oversees daily business activities to ensure efficiency and effectiveness, managing resources, processes, and staff. They develop and implement policies, monitor performance metrics, and coordinate between departments to meet organizational goals, often using tools like project management software.

What is the next step up for an operations manager?

The next step up for a Launch Operations Manager is typically a senior operations role such as Director of Operations or Operations Director, which involves overseeing multiple teams or departments and developing strategic initiatives. Advancement often requires leadership skills, experience managing larger projects, and sometimes additional certifications like PMP or Six Sigma. Progression depends on company size, industry, and individual performance.

[solidcore]

Arlington, VA • On-site

Full-time

Job description

[solidcore] is seeking a Senior Manager, New Business Ventures (NBV) Operations to help build the operational backbone of our Innovation Lab as we grow from a single pilot location toward a broader network of studios. Reporting directly to the Head of New Business Ventures, this role is based in the Washington, DC/Maryland/Virginia area (hybrid) and will serve as the operational right hand to the NBV team — translating strategic direction into organized execution, scalable process, and reliable accountability across workstreams.

This is a generalist operator role, not a site-specific position. You will work across program management, studio operations, vendor coordination, and cross-functional alignment — building the systems and structures that allow the venture to grow with consistency and discipline. You are comfortable working with ambiguity, moving between strategic thinking and hands-on execution, and keeping multiple workstreams organized at once.

Our ideal candidate is a strong operator and project manager with a background in consumer-facing, service, or wellness environments. You hold yourself and others accountable to timelines, communicate clearly across levels, and bring structure to fast-moving situations.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Support the Head of NBV in managing the master program plan for the Innovation Lab, tracking workstreams, milestones, and cross-functional dependencies
  • Build and maintain project timelines for studio buildouts, pilot launches, and key operational milestones
  • Run operating cadences — standups, check-ins, status reviews — to keep internal and external stakeholders aligned and on track
  • Proactively identify and escalate risks, blockers, and resource needs before they become problems
  • Prepare clear status updates, dashboards, and summaries that give leadership visibility into progress
  • Coordinate across [solidcore] corporate functions — Operations, Legal, Finance, Marketing, Technology — to remove obstacles and keep workstreams moving
  • Partner with Legal to maintain confidentiality standards around developing concepts and any proprietary operational details
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and third-party timelines including buildout, equipment, and technology partners

Studio Operations

  • Support end-to-end studio operations for Innovation Lab location(s), including scheduling, capacity management, supply and equipment oversight, and facility standards
  • Serve as a key point of contact for facilities, vendors, and building management
  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality client experience at every touchpoint — from booking through post-class follow-up
  • Build and refine SOPs, operational playbooks, and process documentation for the new concept
  • Track studio-level operating performance and flag issues or opportunities to the Head of NBV

Financial Tracking & Reporting

  • Monitor Innovation Lab P&L and operating budgets, maintaining discipline around revenue, labor, and key unit economics
  • Track and report on financial and operational KPIs on a regular cadence
  • Support site selection logistics and market planning as the concept expands

Scale Readiness

  • Help document operational learnings, client insights, and performance data into clear inputs for leadership decision-making
  • Contribute to SOPs, training materials, and operational frameworks that will support future studio openings
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5–8 years of experience in operations, project management, or general management — ideally in fitness, wellness, hospitality, retail, or consumer lifestyle
  • Proven ability to manage multi-workstream projects with competing timelines and multiple stakeholders
  • Experience building and maintaining operational processes, SOPs, and accountability systems in fast-moving environments
  • Comfortable with P&L basics and financial reporting — you can read a budget and track unit economics
  • Strong project management fundamentals — you can build a tracker, run a meeting, and keep things moving without being asked
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; this role requires clear updates for senior leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Highly organized and self-directed — you build structure around yourself and those around you
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and adapting quickly as priorities shift
  • Genuine passion for fitness and wellness
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in boutique fitness or wellness studio operations (reformer Pilates, yoga, barre, cycling, or similar)
  • Experience supporting or contributing to a new concept launch, pilot program, or market entry
  • Familiarity with project management tools (Asana, Monday.com, Smartsheet, or similar)
  • Familiarity with scheduling platforms, CRM tools, and basic financial reporting
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification
  • Personal fitness practice in disciplines relevant to the new modality
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary range of 95,000 - 107,500 commensurate with experience
  • Bonus eligibility based on performance and venture milestones
  • Monthly cell phone stipend
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Health, dental & vision insurance
  • Flexible PTO
  • Free drop-in classes at [solidcore] and Innovation Lab locations
  • And more
