Join our leading refractive ophthalmology practice, specializing in advanced LASIK/PRK, Cataract, YAG/Argon/SLT laser, and various corneal and eyelid surgeries. Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented full-time Surgery Scheduler to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of surgical scheduling for our LASIK/PRK, Cataract, and YAG laser patients. This role requires excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of ophthalmic procedures, and the ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Schedule and coordinate all surgical procedures, including LASIK/PRK, Cataract, YAG/Argon/SLT laser surgeries, and various corneal and eyelid procedures, ensuring optimal utilization of operating room time amongst multiple surgery centers and locations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, explaining surgical processes, pre-operative instructions, and post-operative care.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations and verify patient eligibility for surgical procedures. Collect payment and arrange payment plan options with patients as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, and other clinic staff to ensure a seamless patient experience.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and surgical schedules.
  • Address patient inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Process necessary paperwork and documentation related to surgeries.
  • Manage cancellation and rescheduling of appointments courteously and efficiently.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Front desk duties including answering phones, checking and responding to patients through Weave VOIP and HIPPA compliant text message

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bilingual in Spanish-preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in surgical scheduling, preferably in an ophthalmology setting.
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic terminology and surgical procedures (LASIK/PRK, Cataract, YAG).
  • Familiarity with insurance verification and authorization processes.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in general office software, paper charts and EMR.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure.
  • Prior EPIC experience is a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Must be willing to travel (up to two days a week) to our outside clinics in Chula Vista and El Cajon
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • At least 1 year of scribing experience-ophthalmology preferred but not required
