Candidates that exceed the minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position. As a Large Accounts Underwriter, you'll manage a defined territory and drive profitable growth by evaluating complex commercial risks, developing tailored coverage solutions, and making strategic underwriting decisions. You'll partner closely with agents and brokers, build strong market relationships, and serve as a trusted resource on EMC's Large Accounts capabilities. Your insights and expertise will directly influence portfolio performance, business growth, and long‑term underwriting success.

Essential Functions:
  • Manage and grow a profitable Large Accounts portfolio within assigned underwriting authority and territory.
  • Evaluate complex multi‑line accounts to determine pricing, coverage structures, and risk selection.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines using loss history, financial data, risk control reports, and pricing tools.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation to support sound decisions and regulatory compliance.
  • Negotiate underwriting terms, conditions, and pricing for Large Account business.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with brokers and agents to drive growth and retention.
  • Educate agency partners on EMC's Large Accounts appetite, capabilities, systems, and services.
  • Conduct agency visits to discuss opportunities, account performance, and market updates.
  • Partner with regional leadership on agency strategy, planning, and business development initiatives.
  • Serve as a Large Accounts subject matter resource for internal business partners.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and leadership to optimize agency and portfolio performance.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and industry developments to inform underwriting and growth strategies.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Five years of commercial underwriting experience or related experience
  • Prior experience working with large accounts, including $500K+ premium accounts, loss‑sensitive programs, and complex risk profiles, strongly preferred
  • Insurance designations, such as CPCU, preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Excellent knowledge of underwriting and risk analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of at least two lines of business
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and account analysis documentation skills
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media
  • Ability to work on multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak effectively before groups
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently
  • Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $100,085 - $138,285 or $110,624 - $152,122

A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
