The Opportunity

The CIO will set and execute a multi-year technology vision for a nationwide distribution and e-commerce business, reporting to the Managing Director as a full member of the Executive Team. The right person will modernize legacy systems, fix real compliance and operational gaps, build a data-driven culture, and lead the company's AI transformation. What we're looking for in an industry leading CIO candidate:

  • Accomplished leader with a proven record driving innovation in technology-forward distribution, logistics and/or manufacturing organizations.

  • Visionary strategist who leads Benco’s successful future technology initiatives.

  • Thought leader who translates complex strategic technology concepts into actionable business language.

  • Change agent comfortable driving large-scale transformation while balancing risk.

  • Servant leader who builds trust, encourages professional growth, and embraces diversity.

  • Customer-centric mindset that starts with end-user needs and works backward.

  • Skilled negotiator and influencer across vendors, peers, and executive stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology Strategy – Develop and champion a multi-year technology roadmap that supports corporate growth objectives and presents clear ROI for each major initiative.

  • Systems Modernization – Lead the phased replacement or re-engineering of legacy ERP and ancillary platforms with modern, cloud-oriented solutions while maintaining business continuity.

  • Digital Commerce & Customer Experience – Partner with sales, marketing, and operations to expand digital channels, improve self-service capabilities, and enable data-driven personalization.

  • Technology Strategy & Roadmap – Build and own a multi-year technology roadmap tied to clear business outcomes, accountabilities and ROI.

  • Data, Analytics & AI – Build and own a multi-year technology roadmap tied to clear business outcomes, accountabilities and ROI. Establish a robust data architecture and analytics program that supports advanced forecasting, pricing optimization, and operational insights. Create a strategy that puts Benco at the forefront of AI in the dental distribution field.

  • Cybersecurity & Compliance – Own the enterprise security posture, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and implementing a zero-trust approach.

  • IT Operations – Deliver reliable, cost-effective infrastructure and service management processes, achieving high systems uptime and strong internal customer satisfaction.

  • Innovation & Emerging Technologies – Provide the vision for evaluating and piloting emerging technologies (e.g., GenAI, mobile AR, blockchain for supply-chain traceability) that can be scaled for competitive advantage.

  • Vendor & Budget Management – Negotiate and manage strategic vendor relationships, drive total-cost-of-ownership reductions, and maintain fiscal discipline.

  • Leadership & Culture – Build and mentor a high-performing, diverse IT team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive IT leadership, including at least 5 years as VP, CIO, CTO, or equivalent technology executive. Hands-on background in distribution, logistics, or manufacturing strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated, personal experience building with AI.

  • Proven delivery of complex ERP migrations or cloud transformation programs in a live business environment.

  • Deep knowledge of cloud platforms, API ecosystems, data architecture, cybersecurity frameworks, and modern software development.

  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and related healthcare-adjacent regulatory requirements.

  • Familiarity with FDA UDI or pharmaceutical chain-of-custody compliance requirements preferred.

  • Ability to live within reasonable commuting distance of Pittston, PA, or willingness to relocate.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. An advanced degree (MBA or MS) is a plus.

  • Ability to travel to company or vendor events, co-travel nationally with Benco sales representatives, etc.

  • Vision. Sees where the business needs to go before others do, and paints the picture clearly enough that other people want to follow.

  • AI fluency. Has personally built something with AI. Understands the difference between a proof of concept and something that runs in production.

  • Business credibility. Can hold their own in a sales conversation, a distribution walkthrough or a board discussion. Understands the business, not just the technology that supports it.

  • Financial and Business Acumen. Ties ever technology decision to a business outcome. Understands margins, cost structures and what it takes to move EBITDA.
