JOB SUMMARY:

Work Responsible for crew training, retention, and the direction of crew activities on job sites. Provides effective leadership supporting high employee morale and quality service for every client. This position supervises a crew of two to six employees, which includes assigning and directing daily tasks, but does not have direct managerial responsibility. Facilitates conflict resolution between crew members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

  • At least 3-5 years of commercial landscape experience required

License or Certification

  • Valid driver license issued by the state where employed is strongly preferred
  • Pesticide License issued by the state where employed or ability to obtain within one year

Specialized Skills

  • Ability to safely operate commercial landscape equipment and tools
  • Demonstrate proper pruning techniques while taking into account the plant material and season
  • Understand fertilization basics for both turf and plants
  • Working knowledge of herbicide applications and relevant practices
  • Have a general understanding of annuals installation and maintenance
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete them under tight deadlines
  • Ability to motivate and lead subordinates
  • Strong commitment to high quality of work and customer service
  • Ability to read and understand maps for navigation and job planning
  • Basic understanding of smartphone apps related to work requirements (e.g. work order entry, time entry, communication with Area Manager)
  • Ability to communicate in English / Spanish
  • Ability to communicate effectively with crew members and Area Manager
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish strongly preferred but not required
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out tasks
  • Deal with standardized situations with occasional variables

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Understand and Implement job specifications for each site
  • Assign daily tasks to crew members and ensure compliance
  • Perform landscape maintenance tasks including, but not limited to mowing , edging, blowing, bed grooming, pruning, fertilizing and leaf pick up.
  • Successfully execute seasonal operations calendar
  • Routinely monitor sites for quality and follow up with crews on performance improvements. Communicate continuing concerns to area manager
  • Conduct and oversee execution of minor Enhancement projects performed at the crew level
  • Complete daily paperwork timely and accurately
  • Assess equipment operation issues and effectively communicate repair needs to shop personnel
  • Supervise safe loading and unloading of equipment
  • Assist Area Manager with initial and on-going training of crews, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of landscape maintenance tasks that leads to excellent performance and opportunities for Gardener/Sr. Gardener promotion
  • Assess skill level and work behavior of employees and provide recommendations to Area Manager regarding professional development, performance evaluation and promotional opportunities
  • Ensure adherence to company policies
  • Develop and maintain a positive work relationship with Area Manager, peers, and subordinates
  • Perform minor irrigation repairs and maintenance, including setting and adjusting clocks and controllers
  • Encourage and maintain safe working conditions by promoting Companys Culture of Safety, including but not limited to reinforcing bi-weekly safety tailgate meetings and ensuring proper personal protective equipment usage
  • Perform minor in-field maintenance and repairs of equipment
  • Communicate when budgeted hours are not aligned with actual hours required to perform work
  • Other duties as assigned
