About URI:
The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State's flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City.
The College of Health Sciences includes seven departments (Communicative Disorders, Human Development and Family Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Psychology, and Public Health), as well as the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and the Program in Gerontology. The College offers seven undergraduate degrees with a total enrollment of 2,460 students. The College offers eight master's degree programs and four doctoral degree programs with a total graduate enrollment of 264 graduate students. There are 90 faculty members in the college. The College operates five on campus clinics and two off campus clinics, as well as two child development centers.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide strategic leadership as a key member of the College's Administrative Leadership Team, overseeing all aspects of academic programs and faculty affairs in partnership with the Dean. Work collaboratively with college leadership to support alignment of academic priorities, resources, and operations. Champion faculty excellence through mentorship and transparent management of career milestone processes, while driving innovation in curriculum design, program quality, and program promotion that advances the College's mission and impact in health sciences education and scholarship.
Duties and Responsibilities
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Program Leadership & Excellence
  • Provide strategic leadership for the College's undergraduate and graduate programs, championing innovation in curriculum design, program promotion, program assessment, accreditation and quality improvement that advances student success and prepares graduates for evolving professional landscapes.
  • Lead and mentor undergraduate and graduate program directors, fostering a collaborative community of practice focused on pedagogical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Partner strategically with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to create seamless, student-centered experiences in advising, enrollment management, and holistic student support.

Faculty Affairs & Professional Development
  • Serve as Senior Leader, alongside the Dean, of all faculty affairs processes-including recruitment, retention, review, tenure, and promotion-ensuring equity, transparency, and alignment with the College's mission and values.
  • Champion faculty success by providing expert guidance and mentorship to faculty and department chairs throughout career milestones, interpreting University policies, collective bargaining agreements, and best practices with clarity and care.
  • Collaborate with the Dean, Department Chairs and other university entities to manage faculty and/or student conflicts, address policy and worload concerns, and promote a collegial, supportive, and invlusie institutional culture.
  • Cultivate a thriving academic culture that values diversity, innovation, and scholarly excellence across all disciplines within the College.

Governance & Advisory Leadership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the Dean on all academic and faculty matters, bringing data-informed insights, creative problem-solving, and institutional knowledge to strategic decision-making.
  • Lead or support college level committees related to curriculum, academic policy, and faculty affairs.

Scholarly Engagement
  • Maintain an active scholarly agenda and teaching presence that models academic excellence, keeps the Associate Dean connected to the faculty experience, and contributes to the intellectual vitality of the College.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS and EQUIPMENT:
  • Personal computers and printers, electronic mail, word processing, database management, spreadsheet software, research statistical and data analysis software as needed.

Required Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Doctoral degree in a health-related field.
2. Strong record of academic leadership.
3. Demonstrated achievement of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor eligible for tenure.
4. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
7. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively.
8. Demonstrated commitment to student and faculty success.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience with curriculum development and program promotion.
2. Experience with promotion and tenure processes.
3. Experience with faculty union processes.
