Job description

Global Transaction & Payment Services (GTPS) includes Cash Clearing Services (BAN) Payment & Cash Management (PCM), Trade Services (TRA) and Societe Generale Factoring (SGF) as well as the FX services associated with these activities.
With over 6,000 specialists in over 50 countries, GTPS is a strategic business line for SOCIETE GENERALE, and offer to its clients the expertise of a large international banking group along with multi-year experience.

GTPS/BAN "Cash Clearing Services" is the global business line responsible for marketing the Transaction Banking - Cash & Trade - products of the SG Group to Banks. These services notably include:
-    Cash: account management, international transfers, clearing, as well as foreign exchange related to payments,
-    Trade: operations for securing and financing international trade.
As a market leader in France and among the top three players globally, Societe Generale continues to develop this business with strong growth momentum, supported by the Group.
To expand the business, Banks clients are managed by Client Relationship Managers, based in Paris or abroad, covering several countries and required to travel frequently to nurture relationships. They are supported by Assistant Relationship Managers (ARM).


Based in New York, the Relationship Manager is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of thirdparty US and Canadian banks, with a focus on nonUSD cash clearing and Trade Finance services.

The role is commercial in nature and focused on business development, relationship management and revenue growth. The Relationship Manager implements the GTPS/BAN commercial strategy for their portfolio, promotes Societe Generale's nonUSD clearing and trade solutions, and contributes to sustainable growth while operating within the Group's risk and compliance framework.

  • Develop and grow revenues from a portfolio of US and Canadian bank clients using nonUSD cash clearing and Trade Finance solutions
  • Acquire new client relationships and expand existing ones in line with GTPS/BAN commercial objectives
  • Implement the GTPS/BAN commercial strategy for nonUSD cash clearing and Trade Finance within the covered geographic scope
  • Strengthen longterm client relationships through proactive coverage, seniorlevel engagement and solutiondriven dialogue
  • Operate within the Group's risk and compliance framework, integrating KYC, AML and credit considerations into commercial activity
     

SALES & RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with GTPS clients in support of NBI growth.
  • Support commercial development of the client portfolio in line with GTPS/BAN objectives and guidelines.
  • Develop relationships with existing clients through regular interactions and contribute to business development initiatives.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for assigned client relationships and partner banks.
  • Identify opportunities for crossselling SG products and services in collaboration with GTPS and group partners.
  • Originate and structure Trade Finance transactions, including credit and compliance approvals, in line with SG and TRA procedures.
  • Coordinate transaction execution with internal partners (GLBA/FIG, RISQ, TRA desks, Legal, Back Office, Paris teams, subsidiaries) and external counterparties (banks, insurers, multilaterals).
  • Contribute to sizing and adjustment of credit lines based on business potential and market conditions.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of GTPS products and services.
  • Develop a solid understanding of clients' organizations, needs, and business context.
  • Coordinate client solution delivery with BAN and GTPS specialized teams.
  • Independently attend and manage client meetings; prepare and circulate call reports and ensure followup of action points 
  • Coordinate new client onboarding with BAN teams and keep clients informed throughout the process.
  • Handle client inquiries and provide firstlevel customer support for banks in North America, in close coordination with SG Paris.
  • Ensure a high standard of service quality and client experience.
  • Monitor and share insights on local market conditions, competition, trends, and pricing within the scope of activities.

RISK MANAGEMENT & GOVERNANCE

The Relationship Manager operates within the first line of defense (LOD1) and applies risk and compliance requirements in the context of client coverage and transaction execution. 
The role requires a solid understanding of clients' activities and risk profiles, and close coordination with internal partners, including Compliance, GLBA, MARK, SGRF and relevant GTPS teams, to support effective risk management, governance processes, and adherence to regulatory and internal control frameworks.

  • Maintain a solid understanding of clients' activities, business models, and risk profiles, including KYC and periodic business reviews.
  • Ensure KYC and AML documentation is complete, up to date, and maintained in line with regulatory requirements, review cycles, and client risk ratings.
  • Support Compliance teams by contributing to client activity reviews, file updates, issue resolution, and periodic reporting and metrics.
  • Perform Permanent Supervision controls and contribute to adherence to Written Supervisory Procedures (WSPs).
  • Contribute to internal and external audit and inspection exercises by providing documentation, analysis, and business input, in line with US regulations and Group policies.
  • Work in close coordination with internal partners (Compliance, GLBA, MARK, SGRF, GTPS, TRA, SGF, etc.) to ensure risks arising from client activity are identified, escalated when appropriate, and managed within established frameworks.
  • Support initiatives aimed at improving processes, controls, and client experience by contributing to issue resolution and client or product escalations.
  • Participate in coordinated responses to operational or servicerelated issues, working with relevant internal stakeholders (e.g. Compliance, Operations, GBTO).
  • Travel within the covered geographic area as required for client and internal purposes.
     

The role holder operates with autonomy in daytoday client coverage, commercial discussions, and transaction execution, within established policies and frameworks. Commercial terms, pricing, and strategic decisions are defined and approved by the relevant BAN teams in Paris, following coordination with SGNY management. The position involves regular travel within the United States and Canada to support client coverage and internal coordination.

  • Expertise in domestic and crossborder payments, correspondent banking, and Bank Guarantees.
  • Solid knowledge of credit analysis, profitability metrics (RAROC, RWA), and risk considerations.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international environment and adapt to local market specificities.
  • Strong knowledge of the banking industry, including SWIFT and payment channels.
  • Ability to support commercial development initiatives and contribute to business objectives.
