The purpose of J-U-B ENGINEERS, Inc. (J-U-B) is "Helping Each Other Create Better Communities." We foster a teamwork environment to solve problems that improve society while providing employees growth opportunities. We are recruiting for a Senior Survey Technician / LSI to work in our Meridian, Idaho office.
This position is intended for a technically strong, detail-oriented survey professional who can independently support office production, field operations, construction staking calculations, survey data processing, records research, technical coordination, quality control, and preparation of high-quality survey deliverables. The successful applicant will work closely with Professional Land Surveyors, survey leadership, field personnel, and project teams supporting transportation, municipal, land development, aviation, water/wastewater, and other civil infrastructure projects.

What You'll Do

  • Perform and evaluate records research, including surveys, deeds, subdivision plats, easements, right-of-way documents, BLM/GLO materials, and other supporting records.
  • Prepare field information packages, staking notes, control information, maps, exhibits, and project documentation for complex assignments.
  • Prepare, organize, and independently check construction staking calculations for municipal, transportation, land development, utility, and other civil infrastructure projects.
  • Process and analyze field data using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D with survey database, GNSS workflows, point coding, and established J-U-B procedures.
  • Prepare topographic surveys, existing conditions base mapping, exhibits, surfaces, and other design-ready survey deliverables using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Provide technical support for boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, construction staking, subdivision plats, Records of Survey, easement exhibits, right-of-way exhibits, and survey control networks.
  • Coordinate with field personnel regarding project scope, field procedures, control requirements, staking needs, deliverable expectations, and documentation requirements.
  • Help maintain alignment between field operations and direction provided by the Professional Land Surveyor(s) responsible for the work, particularly regarding accuracy, completeness, quality control, and defensibility.
  • Perform closures, dimension verification, surface checks, point coding reviews, drafting reviews, staking calculation checks, and other quality-control tasks.
  • Identify technical issues, communicate them promptly, and help develop practical solutions in coordination with the Professional Land Surveyor(s) responsible for the work.
  • Help organize workload, support project schedules, and coordinate deliverable needs across multiple active projects.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentoring to less-experienced survey technicians and field personnel.
  • Collaborate with in-house engineers, project managers, field personnel, and survey professionals across J-U-B offices.
  • Assist with field work when project needs require, including survey data collection, monument recovery, construction staking, field verification, and crew support.
  • Exercise sound professional judgment, communicate clearly, and uphold J-U-B standards for safety, quality, and professional responsibility.

Requirements
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive land surveying experience preferred; candidates with an equivalent combination of experience, education, and demonstrated technical ability will be considered.
  • Passage of the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) Exam and current Idaho Land Surveyor Intern (LSI) certification preferred. Candidates not currently certified should demonstrate a commitment toward professional licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training, college coursework, or surveying-related education preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of records research, boundary procedures, construction staking practices, survey data processing, and survey deliverable preparation.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center, including survey database workflows, surface development, point coding, and preparation of design-ready base mapping.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and independently check construction staking calculations, process complex survey data, and perform substantive quality-control reviews.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to organize and evaluate complex survey information.
  • Good communication skills and demonstrated ability to coordinate with Professional Land Surveyors, field personnel, engineers, project managers, clients, and other technical staff.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned tasks, provide technical guidance to others, and support multiple active projects.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to assist with field work when required, including physically demanding work in varied terrain and weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours when project schedules require.
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to quality, accuracy, defensibility, professional responsibility, and continuous improvement in the delivery of professional surveying services.
  • Additional beneficial experience includes operating UAV/drone platforms, LiDAR and point-cloud processing, GNSS workflows, geodetic control networks, and FAA Part 107 certification.
