Job description

The Job The San Bernardino County Library System is recruiting for Library Technicians who are prepared to work in a highly-interactive and fast-paced customer service environment. Library Technicians have responsibility for implementing system-wide programs in the areas of youth, adult, literacy, volunteer, and/or technology. Library Technicians will also provide reference services and circulation services, backroom operations, and essential library duties to include shelving library materials and keeping materials in order, checking books in/out, issuing/renewing library cards, and collecting fines/fees on computerized circulation system.

For more detailed information, view the Library Technician job description. BRANCH LOCATIONS The Library System has 32 branches located throughout the County. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies in the following branches: Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Big Bear Lake, Bloomington, Chino, Chino Hills, Crestline, Fontana, Grand Terrace, Hesperia, Highland, Joshua Tree, Lake Arrowhead, Loma Linda, Lucerne Valley, Mentone, Montclair, Muscoy, Needles, Phelan, Rialto, Running Springs, San Bernardino (Administration), Twentynine Palms, Wrightwood, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley.

Locations also include joint-use branches located on school campuses: Cal Aero Preserve Academy, Carter High School, Kaiser High School, and Summit High School. Note: You will be asked to indicate the region(s) in which you are interested in working on the Supplemental Questionnaire. If you refuse a job offer in the region you select, or do not attend an interview because of the location, your name will be removed from the eligible list.

A separate recruitment will be conducted for the Trona branch. **Applicants interested in this branch must apply through the Library Technician - Trona* recruitment** ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The San Bernardino County Library system is a dynamic network of 32 branch libraries that serve a diverse population over a vast geographic area. With a dedicated team of talented individuals, the San Bernardino County Library strives to provide equal access information, technology, programs, and services for all county residents.

The County Library serves as a source for educational and recreational learning by offering use of computers, Wi-Fi availability, checking out books, and other free programs. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history verification, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening

Candidates must undergo a TB screening prior to employment. Work Location: Employees work various schedules and at various branch locations depending on the need of the County Library System. Work Schedule: Most positions are part-time and are scheduled for up to 38 hours per two-week pay period; weekend and evening work is required.

Employees receive pro-rated vacation, holiday and sick leave based upon the total number of scheduled hours. Retirement and health benefits are not provided. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur.

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements of the position include the following: frequent reaching and bending; continuous walking and standing; continuous pushing and pulling; constant lifting of materials and books up to 25 pounds; and frequent lifting up to 75 lbs. Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is unable to consider to candidates who require Visa Sponsorship at this time or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age. If under age 18, and a current student, a valid work permit must be obtained prior to hire. Minimum Requirements NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Desired Qualifications The Library System values employees who enjoy working in a high-demand, fast-paced customer service environment with a diverse population of patrons.

Experience using computers and cash handling skills are highly desirable. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess excellent oral communication skills with the ability to clearly convey information to the public and to all library patrons.
