Job Description

Bring your metallurgy and failure analysis expertise to a hands‑on role where your work directly supports real‑world reliability and materials decisions across water and hydrocarbon process systems.

What you’ll do

  • Act as the technical go‑to for metallurgical evaluations and materials selection, providing consulting support across the organization.
  • Execute and support failure analysis investigations, delivering clear findings under the direction of senior staff/management.
  • Perform corrosion analysis testing to determine root cause of failures in industrial water and hydrocarbon process systems.
  • Provide high‑level technical input to Technology and Commercial teams when needed.
  • Train and supervise others on lab instrumentation and best practices.
  • Author and review SOPs, and drive method development, validation, and implementation.
  • Perform analyses in line with established SOPs and deliver work on schedule in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ensure data integrity and result quality through strict adherence to the Quality Management System.
  • Follow all EHS policies and procedures to keep the lab safe and compliant.
Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • BS in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering (ABET‑accredited).
  • 3+ years of metallurgical laboratory experience (academic and/or industrial/commercial).
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong computer proficiency and comfort working in a high‑volume environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and manage priorities.

Preferred qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering (or related).
  • EIT or PE registration.
  • 5+ years of metallurgical lab experience, including leading failure analysis investigations.
  • Broader analytical testing experience in industrial/commercial environments.
  • Experience working with tools and instrumentation such as digital photography, saws/cut‑off wheel, cleaning equipment, hardness testing, metallographic microscopes, SEM‑EDXA, stereomicroscopes, micrometers, sample prep equipment, and related hand tools.
  • Experience implementing methods within an ISO 9001 (or similar) certified organization.
  • Experience using LabWare LIMS.
  • Experience performing analyses tied to industrial water or process systems.
