Job description

An innovative product development and engineering consulting firm is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to help design and develop next-generation automation systems, robotics, medical devices, and advanced industrial equipment.

This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of cutting-edge technologies, partnering with multidisciplinary engineering teams to take products from concept through manufacturing. You'll contribute to complex electromechanical systems, industrial controls, custom electronics, and automated equipment while working directly with clients to solve challenging engineering problems.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience designing electrical systems for industrial automation, robotics, manufacturing equipment, or electromechanical products.
  • Experience designing industrial control panels from concept through production.
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems and industrial power distribution up to 480 VAC.
  • Experience creating:
    • Electrical schematics
    • One-line diagrams
    • Panel layouts
    • Wire lists
    • Bills of Materials (BOMs)
    • Assembly documentation
  • Experience selecting and specifying electrical components including:
    • Circuit breakers
    • Contactors
    • Power supplies
    • Transformers
    • Motor drives
    • Terminal blocks
    • Switches
  • Experience designing custom wiring harnesses and electrical interconnects.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical controls, automation systems, sensors, PLCs, and motion control.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, vendors, and production teams through product release.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as project needs require.

  • Experience developing industrial automation equipment, robotics, semiconductor equipment, or medical device manufacturing systems.
  • PLC and HMI programming experience using Siemens, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including:

  • Proficiency with electrical design software including:

  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW for automation and test development.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards including:
    • NFPA 79
    • NEC
    • IEC/EN 60204-1
    • ISO 12100
    • ISO 13849-1
    • UL 508A
    • CE and TÜV compliance
What You Will Be Doing
  • Design complete industrial control panels and electrical systems for advanced automation equipment.
  • Develop electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, panel layouts, wiring documentation, and manufacturing packages.
  • Select and size electrical components for machine control systems and industrial equipment.
  • Design electrical harnesses, interconnects, and custom control assemblies.
  • Develop hardware validation plans, automated test fixtures, and electrical verification procedures.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support PLC and HMI software for machine automation systems.
  • Support electrical integration activities across robotics, automation, and electromechanical products.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, firmware, quality, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, vendors, and field service organizations.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and compliance activities.
  • Manage engineering documentation through ECO and PLM processes.
  • Identify root causes of electrical and controls issues while driving corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
