How much do labview programmer jobs pay per hour?
What is the difference between Labview Programmer vs Test Engineer?
| Aspect | Labview Programmer | Test Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically requires a degree in engineering, computer science, or related field; certifications in LabVIEW are a plus | Requires engineering degree; certifications in testing or quality assurance are common |
| Work Environment | Primarily works in laboratories, R&D centers, or manufacturing settings focusing on software development | Works in production, R&D, or quality assurance departments, focusing on testing and validation |
| Industry Usage | Used across automation, aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing industries | Common in electronics, aerospace, automotive, and industrial sectors |
While both roles require technical expertise and engineering backgrounds, a Labview Programmer mainly develops software using LabVIEW for automation and data acquisition, whereas a Test Engineer focuses on designing and executing tests to ensure product quality. The roles often collaborate but serve different functions within engineering projects.

What Does a LabVIEW Programmer Do?
Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) is a development and platform design environment from National Instruments. As a LabVIEW programmer, your duties involve using the LabVIEW infrastructure to create programs and software to acquire data, automate manufacturing or industrial processes, or control instruments or devices. Your duties and responsibilities include writing codes for embedded systems and designing interfaces that allow users to control or set up the systems. You also test the programs that you develop and debug them when necessary. You can either do this as a freelance programmer or as part of a larger development team.

Job description
The Newport Engineering Office (NEO) department is seeking an experienced engineer to be a member of the Simulation/Stimulation (Sim/Stim) system design and development team in Middletown, RI. The Sim/Stim team applies diversified engineering skills to produce simulation and stimulation test products in support of the Command and Control System Module (CCSM) Off-Hull Assembly and Test Site (COATS) facilities for VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA classes of submarines. These Sim/Stim products are deployed at multiple contractor sites in support of tactical systems development and require lifecycle support, maintenance, and technical refresh.
The engineers will also interface with customers and end users. Some travel is required for certain positions.
Experienced engineers lead system and subsystem design, drive requirements development, perform hardware architecture definition, design analog/digital/embedded subsystems, integrate COTS and custom electronics, build and test rack-level hardware, and perform deep-dive troubleshooting of complex signal paths. Responsibilities include technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, supporting lifecycle upgrades, and working with customers, test partners (CWITT, NUWC, LM), and manufacturing.
This role provides the opportunity to shape future Sim/Stim architectures and deliver critical Navy test capabilities.
This is an opportunity to work with a diverse group of engineers with a strong reputation for producing quality products that greatly support the US NAVY. NEO boasts lab space in addition to development assets that support Sim/Stim development and offers the opportunity to work on large technically challenging projects, but with the flexibility and personal feel of a small office environment.
NEO is committed to employee growth and advancement as the key to the success of our group. NEO is located in a small corporate park with plenty of parking and is close to the Naval Underwater Warfare Center (NUWC), local housing, restaurants, and shops. NEO is within driving distance to Providence, Boston, Cape Cod, and Connecticut.
