As a result of our continuing growth, Labstat has the following employment opportunity available:

 

Reporting directly to the Chemistry Shift Supervisor - SP and Laboratory Manager - SP, the Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for the extraction process of samples generated from the Sample Generation department, where applicable. This includes preparing solutions for sample extraction and/or impingers preparation, verification of equipment and ensuring glassware is available for use. Included in equipment preparation is ensuring that equipment and systems have been calibrated and/or verified prior to use. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing samples for extraction by:
    1. Labelling glassware appropriately 
    2. Correct solution preparation as per test methods and applicable SOPs
    3. Ensuring impingers are filled or solutions are ready prior to sample generation
    4. Verifying correct solvents to be used and volume by reviewing test methods, protocols and methods instructions (where applicable)
    5. Calibration of simple systems (pH, Karl Fisher, UV - Spectrophotometer, etc.)
  • Perform extraction procedures such as: 
    1. Transferring the sample, pad or product into the correct extraction vessel
    2. Correctly dispensing solution into extraction vessels using pipettors, gastight syringes or bottle top dispensers
    3. Evaporate, digest, shake/vortex or centrifuge samples using laboratory equipment 
    4. Sample cleanup using SPE and LPE
    5. Following extraction procedures as per SOP
  • Ensure quality of results by:
    1. Verifying laboratory equipment before use (dispenser, balance, pipettors, etc.)
    2. Documenting and recording results such as weights, volume, reagent, date, etc. to ensure compliance to GLP and ISO 17025 guidelines
    3. Confirming correct internal standards and spike solutions are used
    4. Completeness of worksheets and runsheets in a timely manner
    5. Reviewing QC results - identify if results are out of specification 
  • Prevent contamination during sample extraction by:
    1. Working in a clean area, general housekeepinG
    2. Ensuring all glassware used is free from contaminants
    3. Following proper cleaning procedures as outlined in the Test Method and SOP
  • The employee shall implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform their duties in accordance to existing project specific requirements, current Test Methods, study plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Compliance to Health & Safety policies and procedures and wear required Personal Protective equipment at all times
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related scientific field diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of basic laboratory techniques and chemical handling procedures
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and analytical methods
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work under minimal supervision
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is a plus
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

  • May involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, and occasional high temperatures or pressure systems
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
