Job description

The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist / TH Instructional Support Assistant, Lab Specimen & Accessioning. The successful candidate will:

  • Perform venipuncture and fingerstick collection on inpatients and outpatients.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all venipuncture performed.
  • Process and handle specimens in central receiving area.
  • Log specimens via LIS (Cerner).
  • Participate in all aspects of quality assurance, quality control, patient safety, continuing education and other aspects as needed.
  • Train and aid in the instrumentation of techniques to new personnel and house staff.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.ย 
  • 1+ year of experience in venipuncture and clinical labs.
  • Phlebotomy certification.ย 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent in Medical Technology, Physical, or Biological Science.
  • ASCP certification.ย
