The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a reliable Shop Labourer to join our team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. As the Shop Labourer, you will be responsible for the safe movement, inspection, documentation, and preparation of incoming and outgoing equipment, while providing general shop, yard, rental fleet, and facility support to ensure safe and efficient branch operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As the Shop Labourer your key responsibilities will include:

  • Loading and unloading equipment safely and efficiently
  • Washing, fueling, inspecting, and preparing rental and service equipment for customer use
  • Reporting equipment damage, missing components, maintenance concerns, or safety deficiencies
  • Operating forklifts, aerial equipment, and material handling equipment in a safe and responsible manner, where qualified
  • Assisting with equipment staging and movement within the yard and shop
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work area by sweeping floors, cleaning spills, removing debris, and supporting general housekeeping activities
  • Assisting Technicians with equipment movement, component handling, and general shop support tasks
  • Delivering parts, materials, and supplies within the branch and to customer sites as required
  • Performing minor equipment repairs and maintenance under the guidance of a Lead Hand, Charge Hand, or Technician
  • Maintaining branch property, including snow removal, sanding, sweeping, lawn care, and minor building maintenance

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

  • Preference or ideal candidate would have completed the pre-apprentice heavy duty mechanic program
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, climbing, pushing, pulling, and operating hand and power tools
  • Previous mechanical or industrial experience is a strong asset
  • Experience operating forklifts, aerial platforms, telehandlers, or rough-terrain equipment is an asset
  • A strong commitment to workplace safety
  • A willingness to perform a variety of tasks in support of branch operations
  • Ability to read work orders, inspection forms, safety documents, and related paperwork
  • Ability to distinguish warning alarms, equipment sounds, and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers, coworkers, supervisors, and other stakeholders

This is an onsite role based in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The base pay range for this role is: $35.90 to $46.14 per hour, depending on experience.
