Job description

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all Company safety rules and procedures (including site-specific regulations) are being strictly adhered to by all Project Team members.
  • Conducts a minimum of one safety audit of a project site per month (more are encouraged).
  • Responsible for managing our largest and/or most complex projects and overseeing Project Managers assistance on those projects.
  • Overseeing Project Managers on smaller and/or routine projects and assisting them as complex issues arise.
  • Working closely with Operations Manager, Construction Manager, and other Project Managers to develop and grow regional labor and equipment resources, refine operations procedures, and expand our technical capabilities.
  • Collaborating with regional sales and design team members.
  • Supporting regional sales and business development efforts by attending and trade shows, conferences and technical presentations.
  • Mentoring and training junior Engineers, Project Managers, and Estimators.

Project Management & Engineering:

  • Serves as the main point of contract both internally and externally for clients and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating with engineers and general contractors to ensure design and construction requirements are met.
  • Managing contract negotiations with clients, including preparing scope of work documents.
  • Tracking, preparing and negotiating change orders and claims.
  • Material and equipment buyout including negotiating with suppliers and vendors.
  • Scheduling of projects in logical steps within time required to meet contractual and internal schedules.
  • Responsible for review of contract documents & specifications and preparation of RFI’s.
  • Provides input and/or reviews design, drawing, & construction submittals with Design Engineers.
  • Identify potential project risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
  • Generating initial and monthly project financial budgets and forecasts.
  • Review and approve invoices and payments for subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Responsible for timely project invoicing and payment collections from clients.
  • Responsible for project activities that include quality control, documentation, submittal preparation and data analysis, equipment and labor allocations, as well as running small work crews when necessary.
  • Holds project kickoff & planning meetings.
  • Conducts pre-construction site visits to determine if there are any site access issues (including both on and off site), working pad preparedness, and overhead obstructions/restrictions.
  • Works closely with the Engineering Department and the Project Manager to ensure that all project quality requirements are met.
  • Provides input and/or reviews bids regional estimators and sales department, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of construction practices including but not limited to, contract claims and management, dispute resolution, cost control, means & methods, skilled trades, and equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of labor agreements (including but not limited to Union agreements).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions when faced with unexpected delays or occurrences.
  • Ability to quickly identify problems and efficiently solve them.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field, and 12-15 years of experience in construction project management in heavy civil construction. Geotechnical construction experience is a plus.
