Job description


Arconic Tennessee Operations has an opportunity for a Labor Relations HR Business Partner. This opening is located at one of the most modern aluminum fabricating facilities in the world. Our plants produce high-quality molten metal and aluminum sheets and are recognized as a world leader in business. The facility has been located at the Foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains for 100 years and continues to thrive and grow.
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing advice and counsel to internal partners on labor relations, HR policies, and programs related to employee engagement, job assignment and progression, talent planning, and other general human resource topics. The incumbent communicates continually with all levels of personnel and management in Operations, Maintenance, and Staff departments, as well as with Union representatives, the Union Bargaining Committee, the Plant Manager, HR staff, and the internal Legal and Compliance team.
Major Job Duties:
  1. Provide advice and counsel to the Plant leadership and HR Manager on administration and proper application of CBA, policy interpretation and other human resources issues, as required.
  2. Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with legal department as needed/required.
  3. Working with all levels of the organization, identify areas of opportunity and execute agreed upon plans to implement labor relations practices that improve efficiencies and flexibility of plant operations.
  4. Lead grievance hearings and resolve matters as appropriate. Prepare for and support Company Advocate on presenting arbitration cases.
  5. Other assignments as necessary require labor relations expertise and consultation with the overall goal of fostering positive relations.
  6. As a business partner, provide one-stop HR support for his/her assigned department(s) and area(s) of functional responsibility, to include labor relations.
  7. Responsible for plant-wide leadership of select HR functions.
  8. Responsible for taking action to ensure that all employment practices under his/her control, including hiring, promotions, demotions, and discipline are conducted in compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements, equal employment opportunity laws and regulations, and Arconic policy and values.
  9. Stay current with local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes governing equal employment opportunity practices.

  1. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills; able not to take issues personally.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Highly competent in building and managing business relationships.
  4. Strong organization skills.
  5. Initiative and ability to prioritize and conduct multiple ongoing projects.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience dealing with employee and workplace issues - either directly in a Labor Relations role or in a HR role that involves working with employees, managers and union officials.
  3. Experience in manufacturing environment.
  4. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Master's degree in human resources, Labor Relations, or related discipline, or Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP) Certification.
  2. Significant and increasing labor relations experience and responsibilities in a manufacturing organization.
